    Job Summary

    The Donor Relations Manager of The Samaritan Community plays a key role in developing and writing grant proposals, in building and maintaining donor relations, and in generating income that empowers our organization to directly help households in need. The Donor Relations Manager is an independent self-starter who is agile and adept at responding to shifting priorities. The Donor Relations Manager will evaluate existing systems, creating and implementing improvements as needed.

    Working under the guidance of the Director of Community Relations, the Donor Relations Manager performs the following essential functions and responsibilities:

    Essential Functions and Responsibilities

    Grant Writing

    • Conduct the grant application process from beginning to end: researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals, as well as tracking and reporting the use of awarded funds.
    • Research, identify, and evaluate new grant opportunities that align with our organization’s mission, in concert with our Director of Community Relations.
    • Develop compelling narratives that tell the story of The Samaritan Community, utilizing data to demonstrate the effectiveness of the organization in assisting those in crisis.
    • Ensure that grant applications meet all requirements and are submitted before the stated deadline, coordinating the review of grant applications with the Director of Community Relations, the Program Director, and at times, with the Board Leadership, prior to submission of the application.

    Donor Engagement

    • Assist the Director of Community Relations in the cultivation and maintenance of positive relations with donors and grant officers.
    • Accurately record all donor gifts and promptly distribute thank-you letters to donors.
    • Assist the Director of Community Relations in the creation and distribution of the fall and spring newsletters, as well as the fall and spring appeal letter campaigns. Coordinate with third-party vendors to print and distribute newsletters and appeal letters.
    • Assist in the planning and execution of the annual Movie Night Gala event.
    • Regularly update website and social media accounts, creating and posting content that informs donors of the events, accomplishments, and needs of the organization and that motivates donors to continue their support of The Samaritan Community.

    Other Responsibilities

    • Various administrative tasks.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Great attention to detail. Ability to easily prioritize, multitask, and independently manage workload.
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel), Google apps, and Adobe. Comfortable with learning and applying new technology.
    • Proficiency in use of databases – data entry and report generation.
    • General knowledge of financial reports: balance sheets, P&L reports (preferred)
    • Passion for The Samaritan Community’s mission of helping vulnerable populations achieve greater stability through a compassionate and empathetic approach to assisting individuals in need.

    Education and Experience

    • Minimum 2-4 years of college-level coursework or at least 2 years of experience in development field.
    • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) or minimum 2 years of experience in development field.
    • Grant writing experience (preferred)
    • Event planning experience (preferred)

    Physical Requirements

    • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 80% of the time.
    • Must be able to communicate information and ideas so that others understand.
    • Ability to operate a computer, produce documents, send email, etc.
    • Must have the ability to move around the office.
    • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
