    About the Organization:

    The Southeast Asian Community Alliance (SEACA) is a community-based organization founded in 2002 whose mission is to develop youth leaders to build power in refugee, immigrant, and low-income communities. Our work focuses on affordable housing, fighting displacement, and creating vibrant neighborhoods of opportunity. We do this though youth and community organizing, policy advocacy, and coalition-building. SEACA works primarily with Southeast Asian as well as Chinese, Latine, and African American youth in the Chinatown, Solano Canyon and Lincoln Heights neighborhoods of Los Angeles.

    Position Summary:

    The Youth Trainer will lead in the recruitment, retention, and training of new high school members to SEACA’s youth programs and provide outreach support to our other community programs. This will include building relationships with staff and faculty at local schools and community organizations, engaging in ongoing follow up activities to ensure robust turnout to SEACA meetings and events, and developing social media content to inform SEACA members and the general public about SEACA programs and activities. The Youth Trainer will also implement a series of weekly workshops for new youth members focused on concepts of social justice, community development, personal growth and relationship building. They will design activities, chaperone youths on outings and events, build camaraderie, and create a supportive environment that helps youth feel empowered and engaged. The Youth Trainer will also provide support to the Youth Organizers Program.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement an outreach plan to maintain and expand SEACA’s youth membership base
    • Work with SEACA staff to plan and facilitate weekly trainings to build knowledge of community issues and develop leadership skills of youth members
    • Organize and provide staffing for field trips, events, and other organizational activities
    • Lead in the creation of social media content to promote SEACA’s youth programs
    • Provide program, administrative, and service support in other areas as necessary and contribute to overall SEACA mission and activities.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of community outreach strategies for SEACA’s other programs
    • Contribute to regular evaluation of programs and overall organizational planning
    • Build and maintain relationships with youth groups, academic institutions, allied organizations, and other partners
    • Represent SEACA in local and regional collaborations and with community allies, policymakers, and organizational stakeholders on issues impacting SEACA members

    Required Qualifications:

    • Experience working with youth from low-income and/or immigrant/refugee communities
    • Curriculum development, training, and facilitation skills
    • Self-starter who can work independently, and also a good teamplayer
    • Strong organizational, research and communication skills
    • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends
    • Recruitment and outreach experience
    • Working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite, Google Apps, and social media applications
    • Familiarity with conflict mediation

    Additional Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of low-income immigrant/refugee communities, in particular Southeast Asians and residents in Chinatown, Solano Canyon and Lincoln Heights
    • Direct community or worker organizing experience
    • Graphic and web design skills
    • Ability to communicate in Cantonese, Vietnamese, Toisan, Chiu Chow, Spanish, or Khmer
