    About Elizabeth House Maternity Home

Elizabeth House Maternity Home (EHMH) is a faith-based nonprofit that provides a safe and supportive home for pregnant women and new mothers as they work toward stability, independence, and spiritual growth. Through structured programming, case management, and community support, residents receive the tools they need to flourish in motherhood and life. We are seeking a mature, seasoned professional , someone who brings real-world experience with vulnerable populations, to serve as our House Manager. This is not an entry-level role. We need someone who has navigated difficult interpersonal situations, understands the complexities of poverty and the social services system, and can bring calm, confident leadership to a residential setting.

    Position Summary

The House Manager provides leadership and day-to-day oversight at Elizabeth House Maternity Home, maintaining a peaceful, orderly, and Christ-centered living environment. This part-time position supports residents by modeling healthy routines, enforcing house guidelines, and ensuring the home runs smoothly. The role requires a candidate with demonstrated experience in conflict management, a working knowledge of social services or public assistance systems, and comfort in direct, sometimes difficult, conversations. The ideal candidate is seasoned, steady under pressure, and motivated by genuine service to women and children in transition.

    Purpose of Position

The House Manager works to ensure that the home runs smoothly, safely, and in accordance with the mission and standards of EHMH, acting as both a supervisory and relational presence while maintaining order, accountability, and support for all residents. The House Manager does not live on-site and maintains set weekly hours. Overnight supervision is not required.

    Who We Are Looking For

This role is best suited for a candidate who:

    • Has meaningful experience working with individuals in poverty, housing instability, or who are involved in the social services or child welfare system (CPS, DHS, shelters, transitional housing, social work, case management, etc.)
    • Has a demonstrated track record of managing interpersonal conflict firmly and with grace, including direct confrontation when necessary
    • Is a mature professional who brings life experience and emotional steadiness, not just a degree or certification
    • Understands basic home operations, maintenance needs, and safety procedures in a residential setting
    • Can hold boundaries consistently and compassionately, especially with residents who may push back or test limits
    • Is comfortable working in a structured, faith-based, Christian environment and aligns with EHMH’s mission

    Required Competencies

    • Strong judgment and discernment in conflict resolution and problem-solving
    • Comfort with direct, appropriate confrontation in a professional setting
    • Familiarity with social services systems, public assistance, or working with populations experiencing poverty or housing instability
    • Basic home maintenance awareness: ability to identify and report repair needs, manage cleanliness standards
    • Basic proficiency in Google Drive
    • Ability to lift 30 pounds; able to lower to the floor and rise without assistance
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • CPR & First Aid certification (must be obtained within 30 days of hire)

    Key Responsibilities

    Resident Support & Supervision

    • Support residents in following house rules and program guidelines with consistency and firmness
    • Maintain a positive, supportive presence in the home during scheduled hours
    • Model healthy routines, respectful communication, and Christ-centered living

    • Ensure all safety and emergency procedures are followed consistently

    Conflict & Crisis Management

    • De-escalate interpersonal conflicts between residents using calm, authoritative techniques
    • Respond to emergencies with composure, prioritizing resident safety
    • Contact 911 when necessary and immediately notify the Program Manager
    • Complete written incident reports within 24 hours of any significant event

    Communication & Documentation

    • Maintain daily communication logs and submit weekly updates to the Program Manager
    • Document all incidents, maintenance needs, and resident concerns accurately
    • Participate in regular team meetings and collaborate effectively with staff

    Scheduling & Structure

    • Work approximately 10 in-house hours per week, per house (20 total), with a consistent weekly schedule
    • Coordinate shift times with the Program Manager to ensure reliable coverage
    • Arrive on time, maintain professional conduct, and follow attendance procedures
    • Communicate promptly regarding any absences or schedule changes

    Training & Team Participation

    • Attend all required EHMH trainings, including trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and child safety
    • Participate in staff meetings, team events, and ongoing professional development
    • Contribute ideas and feedback to improve program quality and resident experience

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in Human Services, Social Work, or a related field strongly preferred
    • Minimum 3–5 years of experience working in social services, residential care, ministry, case management, child welfare, or a closely related field: this is a firm expectation, not a preference
    • Demonstrated experience managing conflict and confronting difficult behavior directly and professionally
    • Familiarity with poverty, social service programs, or the child welfare system (CPS, DHS, SNAP, housing assistance, etc.)
    • Organized, reliable, and detail-oriented with strong documentation habits
    • Must have reliable transportation and ability to pass a background check
    • Willingness to work in a faith-based, Christian environment with a heart for service aligned with EHMH’s mission

    Schedule & Compensation

    • Part-time position (approximately 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling)
    • Occasional additional hours for meetings, events, or emergency needs
    • Pay: $19/hour
    • Training and support provided
