    Operations Director

    Program Description:

    Seed the Vote is a project of Everyday People PAC, a grassroots, social justice political fund mobilizing volunteers to advance social justice by supporting the electoral work of grassroots organizations in swing states building long term power of working class communities and communities of color. Seed the Vote Action is a 501c4 organization working on civic engagement and pro-democracy organizing. This position is a shared position between STV and STV Action (501c4).

    Seed the Vote organizes and provides resources, including volunteer capacity, to support community organizations and labor unions with direct voter contact as well as other campaign needs. In 2020, Seed the Vote mobilized nearly 9,000 volunteers, including over 1,250 in-person canvassers, to support our partners in key swing states to defeat Trump and flip the Senate. In 2022, Seed the Vote mobilized volunteers to door knocking and phone banking in six key states to help defy the odds in the midterms and win major victories in the senate and house. In 2024, Seed the Vote mobilized over 5,000 volunteers to doorknock in 6 states.

    Position Overview

    Seed the Vote seeks an Operations Director who will build Seed the Vote’s operational and logistics infrastructure to meet the needs of our ambitious electoral work. The ideal candidate for this position will have a big picture view of how to build out logistics and infrastructure (technology, policies, compliance) that can meet our program goal of mobilizing thousands of volunteers to win critical federal elections. They should have substantial experience as a director & supervisor in grassroots movement organizations, unions, or alliances, and electoral campaigns.

    The Operations Director provides leadership in managing the logistics aspect of Seed the Vote’s programs, which is a large part of our work. The Operations Director will also play a role in managing internal systems related to staff culture and processes such as intranet, updating staff list, and internal resources. As the election seasons near, the staff team will grow substantially. So, the nature of the role will go from holding a lot of the work oneself, to expanding the team and supervising others (and sub-teams) to hold the fast paced, expansive work during the heat of election season. This is a full-time exempt position supervised by the Executive Director of Seed the Vote.

    Essential Responsibilities

    1. Hold the big picture vision necessary to connect our logistics work with the infrastructure needed
    2. Manage the infrastructure needs of the organization including: finance, technology, policies, compliance
    3. Logistics and operations needs of our volunteer deployment
    4. Manage the logistics of providing financial support for lodging and travel for thousands of volunteers.
    5. Lead or co-lead various sub-teams that pull operations and logistics together such as: Financial Support Team, Operations & Field Team, Operations & Tech Team
    6. Supervise the Operations Manager to ensure that finance and compliance needs are met
    7. Supervise the Operations & Support Associate and Support Team Manager who will work closely with our Support Team volunteers
    8. Hire additional team members of the Operations team that will join in a temporary capacity to help with hotel/lodging reservations, reimbursements, etc.
    9. Work closely with Seed the Vote’s Managing Director to shape staff culture and staff processes such as regularly updating the staff directory (which grows exponentially during campaign season), building and maintaining a staff intranet, compiling resources for staff and super volunteers.
    10. Work closely with the Technology Director to ensure tech systems are meeting the needs of program logistics, and that Ops and Tech are integrated.
    11. Participate in the Directors and Managers Team at Seed the Vote to ensure organizational coherence and mission alignment
    12. Set organizational culture and systems for operations at Seed the Vote
    13. Support other campaigns, programs and organization-wide activities as needed

    Essential Qualifications

    • Strong and politically-grounded strategic thinking and planning abilities.
    • Demonstrated capacity for organizational development.
    • Five or more years of effective experience managing teams.
    • Five or more years of effective experience in operations.
    • A successful track record of working in electoral organizations. Especially helpful to have experience working with volunteers and using distributed organizing models.
    • Strong competency with managing technology, data and systems. Comfort with CRMs, AirTable, and spreadsheets.
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize multiple projects simultaneously in a high-pressure environment requiring rapid adjustment to changing priorities, strategies and deadlines.
    • Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and projects.
    • Highly organized, efficient, and systematic, with strong time management skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
    • An ability and strong desire to work in a demanding, fast-paced environment, including flexibility on nights and weekends.
    • Commitment to grassroots community organizations and electoral work to build long term power of working class communities and communities of color.
    • Able to navigate tense, time sensitive, and stressful political and interpersonal situations.
    • Sense of humility and collaboration.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience organizing in multiracial working class communities.
    • Knowledge of social justice key movement issues and networks.
    • Familiarity navigating with 501c3, 501c4, and PAC legal obligations.

    Physical Demands

    • Able to work on a computer, including sitting at a desk, for extended periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Manual dexterity to operate a keyboard and other technology.
    • Able to see or read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids.
    • Able to speak clearly and in audible tones on the phone and in person and to be understood by others.
    • Able to hear and understand speech at typical levels in person and over the telephone.
    • Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

    Work Environment & Length of Assignment

    • This position may be remote or a remote/in office hybrid. STV has an office in the San Francisco Bay Area, but the employee can live anywhere.
    • This is a full time, benefits eligible position.

    Compensation: This is a full time exempt position. The annual salary for the Operations Director is between $90,000 - 120,000, final salary is dependent upon candidates experience and qualifications.
