    Job Title: Executive Director

    Location: Antigua Guatemala (with U.S. travel as needed)

    Term: 2025–2027

    Languages Required: Fluent in English and Spanish

    Reports to: U.S. and Guatemalan Boards of Directors

    Position Summary:

    Sueños seeks a dynamic, bilingual Executive Director to lead the organization with strategic vision, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to its mission. The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of fundraising, administration, program development, and staff management, ensuring that the organization continues to grow in impact, sustainability, and alignment with community needs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Fundraising & External Relations

    • Develop and execute an annual fundraising plan aligned with budgetary needs.
    • Identify and apply for grant opportunities to meet financial goals.
    • Build and maintain relationships with donors, partners, and community members locally and internationally.
    • Conduct bilingual tours and donor presentations in collaboration with communications staff and program leaders.
    • Organize and execute occasional fundraising events.

    Financial Oversight & Administration

    • Approve monthly payments and oversee petty cash expenditures.
    • Develop and monitor the annual organizational budget.
    • Coordinate international fund transfers with Board Chair.
    • Ensure accurate, timely accounting reports and share with both boards monthly.
    • Negotiate and manage contracts (e.g., rent, legal, accounting, construction).

    Strategic Planning & Program Evaluation

    • Lead the creation of a strategic plan every three years with input from stakeholders.
    • Maintain alignment with Sueños’ mission and vision.
    • Develop performance indicators and track impact data across all programs.
    • Make data-informed decisions to initiate, evolve, or terminate programs.

    Governance & Legal Compliance

    • Ensure timely submission of legal and tax documentation in both the U.S. and Guatemala.
    • Organize and lead quarterly board meetings with both boards.
    • Recruit and maintain engaged board members.
    • Renew legal representation in Guatemala every three years.

    Program Oversight

    • Approve the annual program calendar and curriculum development.
    • Review and authorize updates to the Staff Manual.
    • Support program teams with strategic oversight and resources.
    • Secure funding and oversee infrastructure improvements as needed.
    • Coordinate and oversee three annual staff trainings and additional development as needed.

    Staff Leadership & Development

    • Facilitate monthly staff meetings and conduct biannual staff evaluations.
    • Collaborate on onboarding, hiring, and dismissal decisions.
    • Mentor Program Directors and help establish and monitor annual goals.
    • Cultivate a positive, accountable, and mission-aligned workplace culture.

    Qualifications:

    • Proven leadership experience in nonprofit or educational organizations.
    • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including grant writing and donor cultivation.
    • Strong financial acumen and experience managing organizational budgets.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and bilingual presentation skills (English & Spanish).
    • Strategic thinker with a passion for community-centered development.
    • Experience working in multicultural or international settings preferred.

    Compensation & Benefits:

    Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
