    Position Title: Seasonal Camp Guide

    Reports To: Community Engagement Manager

    Employee Classification: Limited Duration, Part-Time, Non-exempt

    Employment Term: July 30th-August 15th, 2025

    Compensation: $23.38-$24.80 per hour, based on experience

    About the Position:

    APANO CUF is looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Camp Guide to support Camp APANO, a Summer Camp program, aimed at youth ages 12 to 17 (August 4th-5th, 2025 ages 12-14, and August 11th-13th, 2025 for ages 15-17). Camp APANO introduces participants to trade careers that are centered on construction and energy sustainability, while fostering confidence, critical life skills, and future career readiness. The Camp Guide will play a key role in facilitating daily camp activities, building rapport with youth, and ensuring an engaging, safe and educational experience for all participants.

    We envision the position as one that cultivates curiosity, leadership, and empowerment among youth and their peers. The Camp Guide is responsible for implementing the program curriculum, co-leading workshops, facilitating group activities, supporting youth with hands-on learning, and contributing to a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

    This individual will join a seasoned team of organizers and community advocates dedicated to building community power, and creating tangible improvements in the lives of Asians and Asian Americans in Oregon, and the larger world.

    Our ideal candidate is an engaging facilitator with experience in youth mentorship. They are dependable, communicative, empathetic and committed to youth empowerment and racial equity. They have the ability to create safe and inclusive spaces for learning, demonstrating patience and adaptability. The Camp Guide reports to the Community Engagement Manager, and will be responsible for the facilitation of the program curriculum.

    Position Responsibilities:

    Youth Facilitation and Mentorship

    • Facilitate daily camp activities, including ice breakers, journaling, STEAM workshops, field trips and more.
    • Provide mentorship and guidance to youth participants fostering leadership, confidence, and goal-setting.
    • Create a welcoming and affirming space for youth to share their ideas and experiences.

    Program Support and Implementation

    • Assist with setup, breakdown and flow of daily sessions, including prepping materials and coordinating lunch and clean-up activities
    • Guide youth participants through hands-on activities including basic tool use, home energy audits, and construction safety demos.
    • Support implementation of guest speaker sessions and field visits with trade professionals

    Communication and Safety

    • Maintain positive and respectful communication with participants, caregivers and team members.
    • Ensure participant safety and participate in team meetings to provide feedback for future program improvements

    Qualifications:

    The Camp Guide will have:

    • 1-2 demonstrated experience working with youth in an educational or community setting.
    • Experience or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: youth development, education, trades, construction, energy sustainability, or STEAM
    • Strong ability to lead engaging youth activities, adapt to different learning styles and maintain a safe and respectful environment.
    • Additional ability to manage logistics, follow a curriculum and collaborate across a team setting.
    • A warm, positive attitude, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and resolve minor conflicts.
    • Sufficient English proficiency, as this position communicates regularly in written and spoken English
    • Deep commitment to and vision for APANO’s mission and strategic plan, including an understanding of the role of grassroots community organizing in social change and movement building.
    • Respect for and demonstrated experience working with Asian and Asian American activists, and a deep understanding of issues affecting Asian communities.
    • Ability to travel within Portland for camp sessions and off-site activities
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Ability to pass a background check.

    Preferred, but not required:

    • Asian language proficiency, both spoken and written.
    • Experience with basic construction or home repairs.
    • Familiarity with youth-centered programs or culturally specific programing.
    • Connections to SE Portland or APANO’s broader community.
    • Some college coursework, certification, or degree in relation to the role’s function.
