    About Village Enterprise

Village Enterprise’s mission is to end extreme poverty in rural Africa through entrepreneurship, innovation and collective action. Our programming equips people living in extreme poverty with the resources to create sustainable businesses and achieve financial independence. We are scaling our work across Africa through partnerships with leading international and local nonprofits and NGOs, governments, and private sector companies. Our goal is to end extreme

poverty for 20 million people by 2030.

    Position Summary

Village Enterprise is seeking a seasoned and entrepreneurial Director of Development Operations to build and lead our fundraising operations function during a time of exciting growth. This newly created role will lay the foundation for systems, tools, and practices that support a high-performing global development team. The Director will report to the Senior Director of Individual Giving and serve as the internal architect of department-wide development operations—designing and implementing the infrastructure that powers our revenue growth and donor engagement. This is an ideal opportunity for a systems-thinker who thrives in an entrepreneurial, mission-driven environment and is eager to take ownership of building a critical function from the ground up. Familiarity with Salesforce is highly desirable, as the role will be central to optimizing our CRM to support donor stewardship, reporting, and pipeline management.

    Primary Duties & Responsibilities

    Development Systems & Tools

    • Lead the creation, configuration, and long-term strategy for Village Enterprise’s fundraising infrastructure using industry best practices, with Salesforce as the central CRM.
    • Serve as the primary Salesforce administrator for the Development team—improving data architecture, building dashboards, and ensuring consistent use across users.
    • Identify and implement additional platforms (e.g., Classy, Google Workspace tools) to enhance donor engagement, knowledge management, and team efficiency.
    • Develop and lead training and onboarding on systems and tools for a growing fundraising team.
    • Oversee gift processing and, eventually, prospect research functions.

    Portfolio & Prospect Management

    • Design and implement processes and tools for moves management, donor segmentation, and pipeline tracking across individual, foundation, and institutional donors.
    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to monitor and track restricted and multi-year gifts, proposals, and stewardship activities.
    • Establish systems to ensure visibility into active asks, gift agreements, and portfolio performance.

    Operational Strategy & Reporting

    • In collaboration with Development leadership, define and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to track team progress and donor engagement, delivering insights to the Development leadership and executive team.
    • Standardize and document development operations processes to ensure scalability and alignment across teams.
    • Lead Development data visualization efforts in PowerBI.
    • Lead process improvement initiatives across proposal development, gift tracking, and stewardship workflows.

    Leadership & Collaboration

    • Work closely with fundraisers, programs, finance, and executive leadership to ensure development operations supports cross-functional success.
    • Manage and mentor operations consultants or staff as the function grows, fostering a collaborative and impact-driven culture.
    • Serve as the thought partner and internal champion for operational excellence within the Development team.

    Qualifications and Skills

If you’re an entrepreneurial and innovative person energized by the opportunity to build a Development Operations function that will take our Development Team to the next level, we encourage you to apply – even if you don’t meet every qualification listed below.

    Required Skills:

    • 5-7 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising operations
    • Strong experience with Salesforce CRM, including dashboard creation, reporting, and data structure optimization
    • Demonstrated ability to design and build systems, tools, and processes
    • Proven track record of improving development team effectiveness through data and operations strategy
    • Familiarity with donor lifecycle, moves management, and major gift operations
    • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
    • Comfort working independently in a fast-paced, global, remote team
    • Positive, collaborative, and flexible attitude. Willingness to try new things and think creatively
    • Passionate about ending extreme poverty in sub-Saharan Africa

    Preferred Skills:

    • Familiarity with tools like Classy, Mailchimp, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace
    • Knowledge of data visualization platforms (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
    • Experience working in cross-cultural settings, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa
    • Experience managing or mentoring small teams or consultants
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice

    What We Offer

    • Salary range of $105,000–$115,000 USD
    • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
    • Remote work flexibility and a collaborative, mission-aligned culture
    • Generous PTO policy and two additional organization-wide mental health weeks off per year
    • Health and wellness benefits (varies by location)
    • Professional development and leadership growth opportunities
    • The chance to build something new and transformative at a high-impact organization

    Indicators of Success

Success in this role will be measured by the following key outcomes within the first 12–24 months:

    • Salesforce Optimization: The CRM system is fully configured and optimized to support a growing fundraising program, with all fundraisers regularly using dashboards and reports for portfolio management.
    • Process Infrastructure: Clear, documented, and consistently followed processes are in place for donor tracking, proposal management, gift processing, and stewardship.
    • Team Enablement: Fundraisers report increased efficiency and confidence in using systems and tools, supported by strong onboarding, training, and ongoing operational support.
    • Data-Driven Decision Making: Leadership has access to accurate, real-time reports and dashboards that support strategy, forecasting, and board reporting.
    • Sustainable Systems: Scalable systems are in place that can accommodate growth across fundraising portfolios, including institutional, foundation, and major donors.
    • Collaborative Integration: Strong working relationships exist across Development, Finance, Programs, and Executive teams to ensure alignment and operational excellence.
