    Job Title: Certification Project Manager

    Position Type: Full Time, Salaried/Non-Exempt

    Location: Remote (home office), must be located in United States and have reliable internet access

    Overview: BPI is the leading organization for compostable products in North America, working to reduce food waste and associated food packaging in landfills by ensuring composters can trust compostability claims. As a member-based nonprofit, BPI promotes a shift towards the circular bioeconomy through its certification, education, and policy programs. Today over 700 companies have BPI-certified compostable materials, with more than 40,000 items listed in BPI's online public catalog.

    Position Overview: BPI’s core function of certification ensures items are scientifically and technically compostable, while our other programs work towards items being compostable in practice and at scale. Certification Project Managers are an integral part of the BPI Certification process, offering comprehensive support to all stakeholders in BPI’s Certification and Sublicensing processes. They diligently manage and track a multitude of projects to ensure a seamless and exceptional experience for all parties.

    Job Responsibilities Include:

    1. Manage Certifications and Sublicenses from inquiry to completion as accurately and efficiently as possible, with tasks including, but not limited to:
      1. Providing high quality customer service and accurate information to prospective and current applicants in a timely manner:
        1. Responding to email and phone inquiries, explaining the requirements and benefits of the BPI’s Certification Program;
        2. Distilling and communicating complex information to a diverse, international audience;
        3. Conducting an annual member review with each assigned company;
      2. Following established procedures and protocol to create, renew, and terminate certificates and sublicenses:
        1. Initiating, overseeing, and tracking projects in Trello as they move through the process, including communicating clearly and concisely with applicants and BPI’s technical reviewer;
        2. Meticulously maintaining project documentation and information in BPI’s online file management system and database while observing strict confidentiality rules;
        3. Creating custom versions of the BPI Certification Mark using Adobe Illustrator;
        4. Reviewing product and packaging artwork files showing the use of the BPI Certification Mark for compliance with the terms of BPI's License Agreement;
        5. Identifying and pursuing trademark violations.
    2. Collaborate as a member of the Certification Team to execute and improve the BPI Certification and Sublicensing processes by:
      1. Participating in weekly meetings to review current projects, address issues that arise, etc.;
      2. Providing recommendations on systems and technology improvements for the database, online product catalog, website, etc.;
      3. Assisting with training new team members;
      4. Performing additional duties as assigned.
    3. Work cross-departmentally to support BPI’s operations by:
      1. Supporting accurate invoicing by:
        1. Notifying Accounts Receivable of changes to company and certificate status;
        2. Providing billing input at monthly team meetings with Accounts Receivable;
      2. Participating in weekly staff meetings;
      3. Opportunity to attend in-person conferences and staff meet-ups.

    Requirements:

    1. Ability to follow instructions and processes accurately and consistently within a timely manner
    2. Strong eye for detail while reviewing and organizing comprehensive project materials
    3. Excellent reading comprehension skills to understand, interpret, and relay complex and technical information
    4. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
    5. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once, each with its own set of requirements and deadlines
