    Civic Engagement Organizer

    40hr/Week┃Contractor┃$30-$40/hour, based on experience┃Remote with regular travel in NW Iowa including Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Fort Dodge, Storm Lake, IA┃Temporary ┃Start as soon as possible though Dec 2026

    United Today, Stronger Tomorrow (UTST) is seeking a friendly, dependable, and motivated Civic Engagement Organizer to recruit and mobilize volunteers, support voter participation, and coordinate election observation and voter assistance. The organizer will lead outreach, training, and coordinated activities before, during, and after the election, reporting to the Organizing Director.

    UTST brings people together across rural and small-town communities to address local priorities, develop community leaders, and deliver practical improvements in people’s lives.

    Responsibilities

    • Recruit volunteers through community outreach, local partnerships, canvassing, phone calls, and text messaging.
    • Organize get-out-the-vote activities and share accurate information about voting procedures, deadlines, and polling locations.
    • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers to observe public voting equipment tests and polling places on Election Day.
    • Prepare volunteers to assist voters experiencing barriers or intimidation, document concerns, and connect voters with designated support resources.
    • Manage volunteer assignments, schedules, communication, and follow-up.
    • Lead planning and execution of post-election activities, including volunteer mobilization, community meetings, and follow-up on reported concerns.
    • Maintain accurate outreach and volunteer records, provide weekly progress reports, and follow applicable election rules and organizational protocols.

    Qualifications

    • Experience in community organizing, civic engagement, campaigns, or volunteer coordination.
    • Ability to recruit, train, and motivate volunteers and build relationships across different backgrounds and political perspectives.
    • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through; ability to work independently and respond calmly to unexpected challenges.
    • Comfort using online collaboration tools and contact databases; EveryAction or VAN experience is a plus.
    • Reliable transportation and access to a laptop, smartphone, and internet.
    • Availability for regular travel, evening and weekend activities, and Election Day.
    • Commitment to respectful, nonpartisan voter engagement and UTST’s community-building mission.
