    Program Clinician

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW

    Smart from the Start (“Smart”) is a family support, community engagement and school readiness initiative that has as its mission to prevent the achievement gap among Boston’s lowest income children. Smart empowers families and communities with the tools, resources and support they need to break cycles of chronic school underachievement and generational poverty.

    Smart aims to:

    ▪ Expand and strengthen early learning opportunities for young children; ▪ Promote parents’ role as their children’s first teacher;

    ▪ Provide services and supports to underserved families;

    ▪ Build neighborhood will, understanding and capacity to support school readiness.

    Smart is offering a comprehensive, coordinated set of services for parents, caregivers and children to support school readiness, including home visiting, parenting education and support, adult education, information and referrals to vital services, fun and educational programs for parents and caregivers together, and activities to support a community-wide focus on school readiness.

    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

    ▪ To provide a variety of treatment services including individual, group and family therapy.

    ▪To provide clinical services such as intake/diagnostic evaluations, case evaluations, and crisis intervention support.

    ▪ To participate in liaison work with other agencies as required.

    ▪ To participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.

    To participate in regularly scheduled clinical supervision.

    ▪ Ensure clinical documentation is maintained accurately, confidentially, and in full compliance with National Association of Social Workers (NASW) standards and ethical requirements.

    ▪ To comply with clinical productivity standards as established by the National Clinical Director of Children and Families.

    ▪ To participate in monthly staff meetings.

    ▪ To be available for after-hours telephone contact for clients in crisis.

    ▪ To perform other duties as assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NECESSARY

    Driver’s license preferred. Ability to provide clinically sound treatment services based on client needs and treatment plans. Demonstrated understanding of diagnostic evaluation methods, mental status exams, and use of the DSM-V. Ability to respond to a range of clients’ needs using differential diagnoses and treatment approaches. Ability to provide appropriate crisis intervention services. Ability to maintain clinical records in timely compliance with agency policies and procedures. Ability to work collaboratively with other community agencies on behalf of clients and/or the agency. Demonstrated understanding of sound ethical practice in conjunction with the established and defined ethics of one’s training and discipline. Ability to effectively organize time and responsibilities.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

    Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline from an accredited educational institution required. LCSW or LICSW, preferred. Significant work experience with culturally diverse families and ethnically and economically diverse communities. Ability to develop strong working relationships with others (individuals, families, co-workers, and community agencies). Knowledge of and familiarity with Boston neighborhoods, community organizations, and schools. Superb written and oral communication skills. Ability to lead others, work independently, and work as part of a team. Preference given to candidates with fluency in Spanish.

    This position will report to the National Director of Clinical and Family Services.

    Hours: Full time (40 hrs/wk), possibly some evenings and weekends

    Compensation: Starting salary is commensurate with experience.

    Compensación

    Compensation includes three weeks paid vacation, which will accrue. In addition, staff are entitled to earn a bonus “Nurturing Week”, a week of rest and relaxation between Christmas and New Years’ Day.

    Sick time will accrue to a total of 9 days per year, and you will earn a total of 3 personal days. You are entitled to take paid vacation six months after your date of hire, and are permitted to take sick and/or personal time right away, as accrued.

    We are strongly seeking a Spanish-speaking candidate with experience serving children and families residing in inner-city communities. The ideal candidate will have experience working in trauma-informed environments and collaborating with community-based organizations to support youth and families through culturally responsive programming and services.
