About Us
La Puente Home, Inc. is a community-based nonprofit rooted in the heart of Colorado’s San Luis Valley. Since 1982, we have provided food, shelter, and advocacy for individuals and families experiencing homelessness and crisis. Each year, over 12,000 people benefit from our services—including a community shelter and soup kitchen, a network of 15 food pantries, transitional housing, youth programs, and outreach initiatives.
Our mission is simple yet profound: to meet immediate needs while empowering people to live independently with dignity.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a visionary, relational, and mission-driven Chief Executive Officer to lead La Puente Home into its next chapter. The CEO will be responsible for articulating and advancing the organization’s vision; ensuring financial health and program excellence; and fostering a culture grounded in dignity, gratitude, and restorative leadership.
This highly visible role serves as La Puente’s primary spokesperson and advocate—working closely with staff, Board, donors, and community partners to address poverty, housing, and food insecurity across the San Luis Valley.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Guide organizational vision, strategic priorities, and program development in collaboration with staff and Board.
- Fundraising & Development: Build relationships with donors, foundations, and government partners to sustain and grow funding.
- Financial Management: Ensure transparency, accountability, and long-term financial sustainability. Able to build complex budgets that perform and to monitor financial stewardship and strength of programs and the organization.
- Human Resources & Culture: Mentor and support staff; promote inclusion, equity, and wellbeing; and model trust-based, restorative leadership.
- Governance & Board Partnership: Strengthen board engagement, alignment, and oversight through clear communication and shared strategic direction. Maintain collaborative relationships with our 2 partner organizations, La Puente Enterprises Inc. and La Puente Housing Corp.
- Community Leadership: Serve as an advocate for rural equity and poverty alleviation; cultivate partnerships with faith communities, local governments, businesses, and service providers.
- Advocacy & Public Presence: Represent La Puente in public forums and media; engage in statewide dialogue on homelessness, housing justice, and food security.
What We’re Looking For
- Demonstrated success in nonprofit leadership with with 5-7 years experience overseeing multiple programs, diverse funding sources, and staff supervision.
- Proven ability in fundraising, donor cultivation, grant management and problem solving.
- Deep commitment to fair, inclusive and culturally responsive leadership in rural, bilingual/bicultural settings.
- Skilled communicator who can inspire, advocate, and collaborate effectively at local, state, and national levels.
- Strong grounding in financial stewardship, transparency, and accountability.
- Leadership style rooted in trust, collaboration, and restorative practice.
- Understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of rural community life and a willingness to live and lead within the San Luis Valley.
- Experience with, and commitment to working with vulnerable and distressed populations.

Additional Expectations
- Full-time position; flexibility required for evenings and weekends (board meetings, events, and community engagement).
- Must reside in or relocate to the San Luis Valley and maintain an active, visible presence in the community.
