Job Description
The Accounting Specialist will report directly to the Director of Accounting and be primarily responsible for the careful review, and accurate data entry for the setup and maintenance of all BPHC grants and projects into the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 general ledger system. The Accounting Specialist will also prepare journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations and provide support for all periodic GL closes. It is important that this individual pay close attention to detail, be well organized, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills both in writing and verbally. The position will be responsible for the following:
- Responsible for the careful review of budgets and the accurate data entry for the setup and maintenance of all BPHC grants and projects into the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 general ledger system.
- This position will be the accounting department liaison between the post-award grants office, the budget office, the revenue office and the individual bureaus and programs.
- Make recommendations to improve efficiencies, including the timeliness and accuracy of grant/project set-up and maintenance. Recommend new forms or suggest ways to reduce paper and automate current processes.
- Troubleshoot GP2018 problems as they arise, work with Director of Accounting and Accounting Manager to resolve issues.
- Notify appropriate staff upon the successful completion of all project set-ups and budget amendments.
- Prepare journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations and provide hands on support on all month-end, quarter-end and year-end close.
- Provide backup documentation to and interact with external auditors as requested.
- Verify and maintain accurate records
- Develop a thorough understanding of the BPHC Microsoft Dynamics GP2018 general ledger chart of accounts.
- Take over the responsibility of calculating and posting fringe benefits and indirect costs in both the project and GL modules of GP 2018.
- Document procedures for this position and assist with drafting an Accounting Department SOP manual.
- Make recommendations for new policies that will enhance the accuracy and improve timeliness of budget and project set-ups.
- Interact with the Finance team and the Bureau staff on a regular basis.
- Perform accounting analyses and other miscellaneous accounting duties as required by the Director of Accounting, Accounting Manager, or CFO.
- Work in confidential capacity.
- Be able to operate both independently and as part of a cohesive team.
- Use independent judgment and discretion to make decision.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required.
- MBA, Master's Degree a plus.
- At least 3 years of prior accounting or budget experience required.
- Candidate must be a strategic thinker with strong business process skills with the ability to optimize business functions through focused improvement initiatives.
- Excellent computer skills: experience in accounting software, Microsoft Office Suite required.
- General ledger software experience required. Proficiency with Microsoft Great Plains a plus.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and writing skills.

Pay Range
$65K - $80K
