    About Just Futures Law

Just Futures Law is a movement law organization dedicated to defending and building the power of immigrant rights and criminal justice activists, organizers, and community groups. Our mission is to stop the criminalization, detention, and deportation of immigrants and people of color in the United States. We bring unique expertise in immigration, criminal justice, and surveillance issues, and we partner with communities to develop strategies that anticipate and counter emerging threats.

Founded in 2019, JFL’s work is rooted in movement lawyering and a racial justice framework. We are a growing, fully remote team of eight with a fast-paced, collaborative, and values-driven culture. Our staff are based across CA, DC, GA, IL, MA, NC, and OR, and occasional travel is required.

    Position Overview

Just Futures Law seeks a seasoned and committed litigator to lead and support strategic legal challenges against repressive immigration policies, surveillance practices, and the erosion of First Amendment rights. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled civil rights litigator who is passionate about supporting grassroots movements and directly impacted communities.

The Co-Director, Litigation, is a new, senior leadership position (10+ years of litigation experience) who will work in close partnership with the current Legal Director to expand and co-manage the litigation program, supervise a growing team of attorneys, and shape strategic direction. This is a full-time, remote, exempt position.

    • Share responsibility with the Co-Director, Litigation, for overall litigation vision and leadership of the team.
    • Lead and support all phases of impact litigation in federal and state courts related to immigrant rights, civil liberties, First Amendment protections, and privacy rights.
    • Conduct legal research and analysis; draft pleadings, briefs, and motions; handle discovery, hearings, trials, and appeals.
    • Work collaboratively with internal staff and external partners to align litigation with organizing, policy advocacy, and media strategies.
    • Build and maintain relationships with grassroots organizations and community groups to identify emerging legal issues and support their advocacy goals.
    • Provide technical legal support, strategic guidance, and collaboration to movement partners.
    • Represent Just Futures Law publicly in media interviews, panel discussions, conferences, and community meetings.
    • Participate in organizational development, team planning, and internal initiatives.
    • Travel occasionally for litigation, retreats, conferences, and public speaking engagements.

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum of 10 years of litigation experience with significant federal court practice.
    • Demonstrated leadership in developing and executing litigation strategy.
    • Minimum of 3 years experience managing litigation teams or departments and supervising or mentoring attorneys.
    • Program management experience and ability to coordinate across teams and networks.
    • Vision and initiative to help grow a mission-aligned, movement-oriented litigation program.
    • Substantial experience handling complex civil litigation independently.
    • J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction.
    • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in high-pressure environments.

Note: If you do not meet the minimum qualifications for this position, we will soon be posting additional litigator openings.

    • Experience with plaintiff-side constitutional or civil rights litigation.
    • Expertise in immigration law and/or surveillance and privacy law.
    • Demonstrated success working in partnership with grassroots organizations or community-based coalitions.
