The Maria L. Baldwin Community Center’s mission is to be a place that nurtures lifelong creativity and learning and serves as a forum for civic advocacy and engagement through dynamic, community-based programs for all ages.

We are seeking applicants for the role of Children’s Programs Social Worker. This role is responsible for supporting MLBCC’s children’s programs with special attention to the five key protective factors according to the Strengthening Families™ Approach: parental resilience, social connections, knowledge of parenting and child development, concrete support in times of need, and social emotional competence of children.

The Children’s Programs Social Worker will be a creative and compassionate advocate who serves as a leading resource to community members, developing trusting relationships and offering support through therapeutic services to select children’s programs participants, training staff, conducting referrals, and offering community workshops. This position will be responsible for maintaining a caseload of 3-5 families at a time, simultaneously managing a system for waitlist management and emergency referrals. They will demonstrate a commitment to advocacy on behalf of families in our community who are often denied access to vital services due to social or economic barriers. The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate and knowledgeable about supporting children and families to reach their goals, wants to work in a community-oriented, collaborative, children’s programs setting, and wants to focus on the potential for positive impact, free from the bureaucracy and impossible caseloads in many social work positions.

    Responsible for:

    Therapeutic Services for Children/Youth

    • Offer a combination of 1:1 and group therapeutic support for high-need program youth during program hours
    • Collaborate with team to develop and implement Student Support Plans
    • Crisis-level back-up support in children’s programs

    Program Community Support

    • Develop resources, trainings, and workshops based on family/staff need trends
    • Liaise with external community partners and offer information/referrals
    • Launch and oversee family support groups on emerging issues

    Case Management

    • Maintain rotation of 3-5 families at a time focusing on needs related to housing, employment, mental health, and financial security

Prior to being hired, a background check will be completed as required by the Department of Early Education and Care.

    Qualifications:

    • Degree or prior work experience in social work, human services, or related fields
    • At least two years’ experience working with K-5th grade students
    • Proficiency in Google Workplace and task/project management tools (ie Asana) and communication tools (Slack) a plus
