    This is a senior leadership role for a strategic, mission‑aligned finance professional who wants to make a difference while guiding the long‑term financial health of a growing human services organization.

    Your Impact

    As Director of Finance, you will:

    • Ensure the financial strength and stability that allows programs to grow and thrive
    • Partner closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Leadership Team to support data‑informed decision‑making
    • Build systems, processes, and plans that align financial stewardship with mission outcomes
    • Lead and mentor a dedicated finance team committed to accuracy, accountability, and collaboration

    Position Overview

    Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

    Supervises: Assistant Director of Finance; AP/AR Coordinator

    The Director of Finance is a key senior leader responsible for the organization’s financial operations, compliance, and long‑term sustainability. This role oversees accounting, payroll, billing, budgeting, reporting, internal controls, and strategic financial planning across multiple funding sources.

    Key Responsibilities

    Financial Operations & Oversight

    • Oversee daily financial functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, billing, contracting, and cash management
    • Ensure accurate and timely month‑end close, reconciliations, and internal financial reporting
    • Monitor and forecast cash flow to maintain liquidity and operational stability
    • Maintain strong internal controls, financial policies, and compliance practices
    • Supervise and support finance staff, fostering efficient workflows and professional growth

    Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Reporting

    • Lead the annual operating budget and mid‑year forecasting processes
    • Prepare clear financial analyses including variance reporting, program costing, and trend monitoring
    • Deliver timely financial reports for the CEO, Leadership Team, and Board of Directors
    • Support directors with budget management and understanding revenue and cost drivers
    • Develop multi‑year financial projections and long‑range financial plans to support strategic initiatives

    Revenue Cycle, Billing & Contract/Grant Compliance

    • Oversee billing and revenue reconciliation across all funding streams (DDS, MassHealth, MassAbility, grants, private pay, etc.)
    • Ensure compliance with contract and grant requirements, allowable costs, and reporting obligations
    • Manage timing gaps between program expenses and government reimbursements
    • Maintain documentation systems that support audit readiness and timely billing

    Audit, Compliance & Risk Management

    • Coordinate the annual independent audit, including preparation, response to findings, and timely submissions
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, government regulations, and organizational policies
    • Identify financial risks and support mitigation planning
    • Oversee preparation and filing of federal and state tax returns

    Systems, Process Improvement & Operational Support

    • Oversee financial systems including QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Paychex, and Microsoft Office tools
    • Ensure accurate data flow across state billing platforms such as EIM and Virtual Gateway
    • Identify and implement process improvements that streamline workflows and enhance accuracy
    • Support ongoing digital modernization using tools such as Asana, Slack, and Microsoft Teams
    • Partner with HR, program leaders, and CQI to align financial practices with agency goals

    Leadership, Collaboration & Communication

    • Serve as an active member of the Leadership Team
    • Provide financial training to program and administrative staff
    • Collaborate on grant budgeting and program cost alignment
    • Partner with the CEO on financial implications of growth, funding changes, and strategic priorities
    • Translate complex financial information into clear, accessible insights

    Board & External Relations

    • Prepare financial materials and dashboards for Board and Finance Committee meetings
    • Work collaboratively with auditors, banks, vendors, and funders
    • Support governance through actionable financial data and long‑term forecasting

    What You Bring

    Minimum Qualifications

    • 7+ years of progressive nonprofit finance experience, including supervisory responsibilities
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting, internal controls, and financial operations
    • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, grant/contract compliance, and audits
    • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Excel
    • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (experience may substitute)

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in human services or government‑funded organizations
    • Familiarity with Medicaid, DDS, or other state/federal funding structures
    • Experience supporting digital transformation or operational tool implementation
    • MBA, CPA, or equivalent advanced training
