    Position Description

    The Development Manager is responsible for engaging with mid-tier donors and foundations giving $1,000-9,999 annually to the NhRP and bringing new supporters into that gift category through prospecting and communications. The role will conduct research, build relationships with donors, and work across the team to engage donors in the programmatic work of NhRP. The ideal candidate will bring an enthusiasm for connecting with donors regarding our mission to seek legal rights for nonhuman animals. We are seeking a team player with strong organization and communications skills in this multifaceted role.

    This is a full time, remote, US-based position that reports to the Senior Advisor for Development. The 2-person development department at the NhRP manages relationships and engagement with all donors giving $1,000 and up annually to the organization. The NhRP’s internal communications team manages all online/digital donors and sustaining monthly donors giving less than $1,000 annually. The NhRP has an annual budget of approximately $2M.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Donor Engagement:

    • Build out a program for donors giving at the mid-tier level ($1,000-9,999 annually)
    • Serve as the relationship manager for mid-tier donors. Cultivate relationships with existing and new donor prospects through the cycle of prospecting, identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and annual gift renewals.
    • Develop strategies to grow the mid-tier donor program and number of donors in the category year over year.
    • Conduct prospecting research, use tools such as WealthEngine for both current donors and new prospects.
    • Prepare written materials for donor engagement, proposals for donors, matching gifts, and annual gift renewal requests.
    • Write and manage the distribution of a quarterly donor newsletter. Manage quarterly zoom meeting for donors (attendees, logistics, speakers, etc)
    • Assist as needed with strategy and implementation of the organization’s online fundraising efforts to ensure a robust donor pipeline is developing and donors are moving up a ladder of engagement.
    • Engage with donors regularly by phone, email, meetings, etc to keep them informed and connected to the NhRP.

    Donor support, gift tracking and reporting:

    • Respond to inquiries from mid-tier donors concerning their monthly or annual giving. Flag issues as needed to Senior Advisor for Development.
    • Manage donor gift processing for checks, including logging, tracking, preparing and sending tax acknowledgements, and thank you letters. Manage email inbox for incoming donor questions and concerns.
    • Conduct monthly reconciliation of donor giving (in conjunction with external accounting team and communications teams).
    • Generate donor reports in EveryAction for review of quarterly donor data.
    • Manage weekly report of donors giving $500+ the previous week to ensure donors are thanked by the organization in a timely manner.
    • Track donor engagement activity through CRM and maintain accurate archives of donor contact information, donations, and donor communications.
    • Conduct research using donor database and WealthEngine to prepare for donor meetings, draft quarterly newsletters, donor zoom webinars, and meetings.
    • Serve as development team’s manager of donor data and information integrity.
    • Regularly analyze donor data and share insights, trends, etc on giving to help inform current fundraising strategies.
    • Work closely with the communications team to troubleshoot as needed and to ensure all of the NhRP’S donors feel appreciated.

    Foundations and grant writing:

    • Serve as relationship holder for a portfolio of foundations giving under $10k annually.
    • Work with staff to write and submit grant proposals to foundations that demonstrate a compelling need for financial support.
    • Research and find new funding opportunities with foundations.
    • Ensure development calendar is up to date, ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, gift acknowledgments, reports, and other stewardship activities.
    • Maintain up-to-date records of grant applications in the organization’s database.
    • Collaborate effectively with team members on proposals, program implementation, reporting, and renewals.
    • Gather information data and metrics necessary for preparing written proposals and reports.
