Yestermorrow Development Director - Job Description
40 hours / week (Full time Exempt) Hybrid position (In-person / remote)
Overview
This role leads the development and execution of Yestermorrow Design/Build School's fundraising
- strategy. The Development Director will cultivate strong relationships to expand scholarship funding, the endowment, and new initiatives. In collaboration with the Executive Director, Development Committee, and Board members, this role will oversee fundraising activities, including appeals, major gifts, planned giving, corporate sponsorships, alumni and donor development, special events, and grant writing. The Director will focus on both current initiatives and new opportunities to increase support from individuals, foundations, and corporations. Additionally, the Development Director will direct staff, committees, and volunteers, as needed, for appeals and events. This fulltime position is ideal for an experienced
candidate, ready to contribute hands-on in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Primary Roles & Responsibilities
Planning
- Update, manage, and expand our comprehensive annual development strategy to cultivate current donors and encourage prospects in all constituent groups, including individuals, major donors, alumni, partner organizations, corporations, and foundations.
- Provide frequent reports to the Executive Director, Development Committee, and the Board of Directors to demonstrate and measure progress.
- Plan and coordinate events, including small gatherings and larger annual fundraising events.
- Develop, grow, and manage an alumni engagement program.
- Strengthen relationships with community leaders, friends of the school, and volunteers, specific to central Vermont and our design/build community at large.
- Envision and execute large-scale targeted campaigns in the coming years.
Gifts cultivation
- Design and drive all philanthropic communications and messaging to diverse donor groups, including representing the organization in person at events as well as welcoming visitors to our campus.
- Identify and pursue new sources of corporate and foundation funding.
- Create and update collateral materials to support gift cultivation.
- In coordination with the Outreach Manager, develop and implement all aspects of direct donor and alumni mailings, appeal letters, and other communication approaches as needed.
Grant management and administration
- Manage and grow grant research, compliance, and writing efforts.
Qualifications
- Ten or more years of professional development and fundraising experience in a non-profit setting.
- Computer proficiency, including with Google Suite and Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack, or similar platforms.
- Desire to work as part of a team and willingness to promote the principles and views of Yestermorrow Design/Build School.
- Confident in public speaking, meeting with donors, working with the Board, and representing the School.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated, disciplined, highly organized, confident, and with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work well with people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience.
- Ability to express ideas verbally and in writing clearly, enthusiastically, concisely, graciously, and tactfully.
Pay & Benefits
Annual salary starting at $75,000 (negotiable), and the opportunity to enroll in employer-subsidized health benefits and matched IRA/401k retirement benefits.
