    ExpandED is dedicated to ensuring that all young people have access to enriching learning opportunities that affirm their identities, teach them valuable skills, and spark new possibilities. Through program development, capacity-building, research and advocacy, we work toward our vision of a vibrant and stable publicly-funded system of school-community partnership so that all New York City children thrive.

    Established in 1998, the organization today reaches more than 119,000 children and 900 programs throughout New York City to ensure that students in under-served communities have access to innovative, engaging ways of learning to enable them to reach their full potential. Over the last two decades, ExpandED Schools’ program, research and policy efforts have led to increased recognition of the academic, social, and emotional benefits of afterschool, increased funding, and new models for school-community partnership.

    Purpose of Position

    Reporting to the Director, STEM Programs, the Program Associate, STEM, will play an integral role in executing ExpandED’s informal STEM strategy, supporting the operations of the NYC STEM Education Network, fostering partnerships and collaborations between STEM providers and STEM Educators Academy, and work closely with Network leadership to implement year over year goals.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • NYC STEM Education Network:
      • Manage Network Airtable bases in partnership with ExpandED’s Research team and Director, STEM Programs,
      • Ensure current and archival records are up to date, including, but not limited to, membership records and surveys.
      • Coordinate Network Quarterly Meetings (four annually) by managing registration, sending needed communication, and coordinating with off-site hosts when applicable.
      • Coordinate yearly application cycles for STEM Network positions by managing applications and coordinating interviews.With support of the Director, STEM, participate in weekly Kelley Fellow meetings to stay up to date on Fellow’s goals and progress.
      • Collaborate with Network Kelley Fellow and Working Group co-chairs to stay up to date on working group meetings and progress towards goals, sharing back these findings with the Director.
      • Participate in the planning team for district-based partnership events, including assisting with a pre-event needs assessment, event planning and logistics, day-of prep and facilitation, and post-event follow-up.
      • Administer annual member surveys, including new member and end-of-year surveys.
      • Manage Network Google Group and Gmail account.
      • With the support of the STEM Director, Build and maintain relationships with CBO partners to further collaboration within the STEM Network.
    • STEM Educators Academy
      • Support the Program Director, STEM Educators Academy in fostering partnerships and collaborations identified via the NYC STEM Education Network, exploring new partnerships between CBOs and STEM service providers.
    • Other Duties
      • Participate in reporting for initiative funders.
      • Collaborate with colleagues on special projects and perform other work as assigned.
      • Use learning and insights to inform and support evolving program strategy.
      • Coordinate and conduct site observations (in partnership with Director, STEM Programs) across the STEM portfolio to observe program quality and ensure grant compliance.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with direct experience in education and youth development a plus.
    • Experience working in education and /or youth development.
    • Knowledge of principles of youth development.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills with attention to detail
    • Excellent writing ability and communication aptitude
    • Demonstrated ability to pull data from databases and prepare analytical reports
    • Computer skills, especially Canva, MS Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
    • A proactive, positive, ‘can-do’ attitude with consistent professionalism, ability to exercise
    • discretion, independent judgment, initiative and resourcefulness
    • Experience in designing, facilitating, and administering professional networks, communities of practice, coalitions, or similar collaborative structures.
    • Ability to manage complex projects in a fast-paced environment, and
    • work as part of a team.
    • Strong cultural competence with respect for and knowledge of the cultures of stakeholders we work with and communities we serve
    • Deep commitment and passion for educational equity and the young people of New York City.
    • Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with complexity and change
    • Willingness and ability to travel, frequently within New York City and occasionally outside the city.
