    About the Susan Wojcicki Foundation

Founded in 2026, the Susan Wojcicki Foundation is dedicated to the early detection and prevention of lung cancer. The Foundation carries forward the legacy of Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube, who was diagnosed with late-stage lung cancer in 2022. It brings together leaders in science, technology, and healthcare to address one of the deadliest and most underdiagnosed cancers. Through research funding, strategic partnerships, and public awareness, the Foundation is working to fundamentally shift how lung cancer is detected, understood, and ultimately prevented. Learn more at susanwfoundation.org.

    The Opportunity

We launched publicly in May 2026 to national coverage, including TIME and Good Morning America, putting the Foundation's science and story in front of a national audience (more at susanwfoundation.org/the-latest).

This role will shape how the Foundation shows up in the world: developing the messaging and content behind our story, overseeing our earned media and PR, and building our voice as a trusted authority in lung cancer science. You'll work hand in hand with our scientists and clinicians to make sure everything we say is accurate, clear, and compelling, and you'll lead the communications to raise awareness and attract participants to join our research studies.

We're a small, nimble, collaborative team with expertise spanning science, medicine, technology, and philanthropy, working toward one vision: a world where no one loses a loved one to lung cancer. You'll set the strategy and do the work, with a PR agency partner and a marketing team who package your content for our channels.

We’re targeting a Senior Manager level candidate for this position but will consider exceptional candidates at the Director level.

This is a remote, work-from-home position that requires occasional travel throughout the San Francisco Bay Area; therefore, candidates based in the region are preferred.

    What You'll Do

    • Develop the Foundation's messaging, narrative, and core content for our key audiences: scientists and clinicians, patients and caregivers, donors, and the public
    • Lead earned media and PR strategy, overseeing our PR agency and preparing spokespeople for interviews, briefings, op-eds, and features
    • Build and run our thought leadership program, including op-eds, speaking opportunities, and conference and panel presence for our scientists and leaders
    • Own science messaging and accuracy, partnering closely with our scientific team to translate research into clear, credible content
    • Lead communications that drive participation in our screening and early detection research, with marketing support to package and distribute it
    • Develop content for owned channels, including the website and editorial calendar, for the marketing team to package across channels
    • Support events through a communications and thought leadership lens, including speaking opportunities, programs, and overall external presence

    What You'll Bring

We're looking for a communicator who is equally at home with a scientist and a journalist, and who thrives in a lean, fast-moving environment.

    • Experience: Significant experience in communications, PR, (typically 8+ years, with room for candidates at different levels of seniority), with a record of earning media coverage and building thought leadership
    • Science Fluency: Ability to translate complex scientific and clinical material for lay and media audiences without losing accuracy or nuance
    • Messaging & Content: A strong writer and message architect who can develop narratives and content that works across earned and owned channels
    • Media: Experience managing media relationships and, ideally, a PR agency partner; a network among health, science, or business press is a plus
    • Collaboration: Comfort working directly with scientists, clinicians, and senior leaders, and earning their trust quickly
    • Range: Quick and adaptable across audiences, from pitching a reporter to briefing a scientist to presenting to executives, partners, or donors
    • Pace: Thrives independently on a lean and highly collaborative team, in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
    • Bonus: Participant recruitment experience (clinical trials, screening programs), nonprofit, biotech, science, pharma, or health-system background, and event or speaker program experience

We care more about demonstrated ability than a perfect-match resume. If your path here looks different from what's listed above, we still want to hear from you.
