    Position Overview

    Possibility Labs (PL) is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Accountant to support the organization's financial operations with a strong emphasis on daily accounting of transactions, reconciliations, and reporting. This previously external, newly internal role , reflects PL’s strategic shift towards scalability, efficiency, and closer alignment between internal teams and the communities we serve.

    This is a critical role within PL’s Finance team and will play an integral part in maintaining financial accuracy, ensuring timely processing of financial transactions, and providing responsive support to internal stakeholders. The Accountant will work closely with the CFO, Finance team, and Partner Services Team to ensure financial operations are executed with excellence and integrity.

Possibility Labs does this by providing the essential financial and legal infrastructure needed to manage and move integrated capital into community-led solutions.

    Core Responsibilities

    TRANSACTION PROCESSING & ACCOUNTING (40%)

    • Record and maintain accounts payable and accounts receivable, journal entries, ensuring appropriate approvals and documentation.
    • Support fund transfers between internal accounts and partner bank accounts, track one-time and recurring revenue items.
    • Maintain accurate general ledger records and assist with month end closing.
    • Collaborate with external accountants on reconciliations, documentation requests, and preparation of journal entries while assisting in the wind down of the engagement.
    • Ensure timely and compliant documentation of incoming and outgoing payments.
    • Manage AP and AR automation systems such as Zendesk, Bill, Ramp (input, ERP integration, troubleshooting and internal/external customer service.

    SYSTEMS & OPERATIONS SUPPORT (25%)

    • Monitor and manage platforms and processes related to financial operations, including vendor onboarding, payment inquiries, and partner support.
    • Maintain and organize digital files for financial documentation, ensuring audit-readiness.
    • Coordinate account openings and closings for fiscally sponsored projects, including bank accounts, AP systems, ERP, and corporate charge cards.
    • Support implementation and documentation of accounting procedures, SOPs, and internal controls.
    • Maintain and provide financial reporting in systems such as Salesforce, Xero, or other platforms used by PL.

    COMPLIANCE & PARTNER SUPPORT (20%)

    • Provide responsive support to the Partner Services team, including partnering to provide support to PL partners through direct interaction
    • Ensure adherence to organizational financial policies and grant compliance requirements.
    • Assist in annual audits and compliance reviews.
    • Contract management (maintaining active contracts)

    TEAM COLLABORATION & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT (10%)

    • Participate in Finance team meetings, cross-functional collaboration efforts, and staff development initiatives.
    • Recommend improvements to financial processes and workflows to support PL’s mission and values.
    • Contribute to documentation and training materials for internal and external stakeholders.

    OTHER (5%)

    • Support and participate in PL activities, events, and meetings as appropriate.
    • Maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Supervisory Responsibility

    Currently does not supervise other employees.

    Expected hours of work

    PL office hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. While expected to be available during the regular office hours, the daily schedule is flexible and will be decided in consultation with the supervisor and based on the scope of work and organizational needs.

    Travel

    No significant travel expected.

    Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

    • Commitment in practice to racial, gender, and social justice;
    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting OR valid certification in accountancy;
    • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, nonprofit finance, or financial operations;
    • Experience in nonprofit finance, grant compliance, or impact investing is preferred;
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities;
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written.
    • Experience and ability to effectively work within a team, as well as to collaborate cross-functionally;
    • Ability to switch between detail-intensive data processing and relationship-based interaction with ease;
    • Excellent attention to detail while keeping abreast of the big picture;
    • Strong project management skills and experience, especially managing and making progress on multiple projects simultaneously;
    • Ability to handle diverse challenges with a calm demeanor and positive outlook and be oriented towards excellence in customer service;
    • Adaptability and strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
    • Working knowledge of Google Workspace is required, and experience with Salesforce, Bill.com, Xero, Divvy, Zendesk, Ramp, Interact, and savvy with other emergent project management tools is a plus;
    • Knowledge of new economy/integrated capital field and Donor Advised Fund helpful; and
    • Growth mindset, and willingness to give and receive feedback.
