    Tenant Organizer and Eviction Prevention Caseworker

    West Bronx Housing and Neighborhood Resource Center, Inc. has worked since 1978 to preserve and protect the affordable housing stock of the Northwest Bronx. West Bronx Housing takes a problem solving approach that incorporates both landlords and tenants and trains its clients along the way, up to and including building organizing where necessary.

    West Bronx Housing is currently looking to add a Tenant Organizer and Eviction Prevention Caseworker to its team. The Organizer/Caseworker assesses the needs of low-income tenants, especially those at risk of eviction, and charts a path to self-sufficiency with each individual tenant. The Organizer/Caseworker reports directly to the Executive Director, and is responsible for all aspects of the program including: verifying information, mediating between landlord and tenant, advocating for client at Housing Court and with appropriate governmental agencies, recertifying or enrolling the client in the appropriate benefits, and referring the client for legal assistance. When necessary, the Organizer/Caseworker will host Know Your Rights trainings and building organizing sessions.

    Program Goals:

    1. Eviction prevention.
    2. Assist tenants with obtaining needed repairs.
    3. Assist tenants with resolving any legal issues related to housing.
    4. Assist tenants with resolving any disputes between tenants and landlords.
    5. Help program participants achieve future ability to pay rent by renewing current benefits and/or securing new ones.
    6. Assist buildings with forming and maintaining tenant associations.

    Position Requirements:

    West Bronx Housing clients are majority monolingual Spanish speakers, so Spanish speaking ability is preferred. Familiarity with Housing Court a plus. Candidate must be a self-starter with experience in community organizing, public benefits, and/or rent stabilization and housing law. Candidate must be computer literate with knowledge of Access, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and have the ability to quickly learn city agency online platforms. Must be able to work nights and weekends when necessary. This is a fully in person position, and may require a significant amount of walking ald climbing stairs.

    Salary: $57,500 - $62,500, depending on experience, plus generous benefits.

    Compensación

    Medical, Dental, 2-4 weeks paid vacation depending on length of employment, short term disability.
