    Descripción

The Coalition for Responsible Home Education empowers homeschooled children by educating the public and advocating for child-centered, evidence-based policy and practices for families and professionals. CRHE is the only organization advocating for the right of every homeschooled child to receive a quality education in a safe home. Founded twelve years ago by an all-volunteer team of homeschool alumni, CRHE now employs two full-time and one part-time staff members, along with several paid part-time consultants and dedicated volunteers. Nearly all of the current board of directors and staff were homeschooled.

CRHE is now the premier voice for homeschooled children's rights in the United States, with our accomplishments and research featured in John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Scientific American, and hundreds of other outlets. Our evidence-based resources for homeschool alumni, abuse and neglect prevention training program, and model legislation, the Make Homeschool Safe Act, position CRHE as an authoritative leader on homeschool policy and best practices for lawmakers, researchers, educators, child welfare practitioners, and homeschooling communities.

CRHE seeks an experienced, energetic, strategic, and decisive leader to continue CRHE’s expansion of programs and influence. The executive director will carry out CRHE’s mission in the following areas:

    • Implement the CRHE strategic plan (ending FY 2026) and lead the development of the next strategic plan and process.
    • Lead, coach, develop, and retain CRHE’s employee, contract staff, and volunteer team.
    • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to further the mission of CRHE.
    • Represent CRHE to the media, stakeholders, donors, potential partners, and homeschool alumni.
    • Devise and implement a sustainable fundraising and growth strategy by cultivating relationships with donors and foundations, and potential community partners.
    • Meet fundraising goals and development benchmarks through collaboration with the CRHE board, securing financial support from foundations, individual donors, and other funding sources as appropriate.
    • Supervise the work of the Director of Programs on CRHE’s day-to-day operations and programmatic work on policy education, child welfare, and resource development for homeschool alumni.
    • Supervise the work of the Communications Director on social media and earned media strategy, press releases, newsletters, and other public communications.
    • Spearhead development of a new approach to CRHE’s advocacy portfolio, including promotion of the Make Homeschool Safe Act, by building relationships with local stakeholders and elected officials in accordance with the priorities set out in the strategic plan.
    • Facilitate and nurture an inclusive, engaging organizational culture, consistent with CRHE’s organizational values (focus on children’s rights, respecting humanity, practicing honest hope, championing equity, prioritizing impact), and collaborate with staff on updating and implementing human resource policies.
    • Nourish existing partnerships with like-minded stakeholders in child welfare and education spaces, and conduct outreach to build new partnerships.

CRHE’s mission is grounded in a commitment to equity and inclusion. In our work, we aspire to champion and elevate the voices of marginalized communities, and therefore encourage people of color, people with disabilities, women, people in the LGBTQ+ community, and members of other marginalized groups to apply. People who were homeschooled are especially strong candidates for this position.
