    Descripción

    Title: Director of Advancement

    Status: Exempt, 40 hours

    Reports to: President/CEO

    THE POSITION

    The Director of Advancement serves as a key member of PRO’s leadership team and is responsible for driving the organization’s fund development, external relations, and communications strategy to advance PRO’s mission to invest in young people and communities. This role leads a multifaceted portfolio spanning fundraising, relationship management, marketing and communications, government partnerships, and board engagement.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Fund Development & Major Gifts

    • Lead and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes individual giving, major gifts, annual campaigns, and donor stewardship.
    • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and prospects, with an emphasis on building a strong base of individual and institutional supporters.
    • Develop compelling donor communications, cases for support, stewardship materials, and impact reports.
    • Develop, plan, and implement high-touch donor experiences, including point-of- entry events, “friend raising” events, the annual Hope Rises Youth Recognition Event, and salon-style events.

    Foundation & Grant Development

    • Research, cultivate, and manage relationships with private, corporate, and family foundations.
    • Lead the preparation and submission of high-quality grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports.
    • Provide support to the Director of Grants, assisting with government grant and contract proposals.
    • Collaborate closely with the Director of Grants to ensure cohesion across grant language, messaging, and tone.
    • Partner with program and finance teams to design, budget, and package proposals.

    Government & Community Relations

    • Support and maintain relationships with public-sector partners, including city, county, state, and federal agencies.
    • Assist with securing, renewing, and managing government grants and contracts.
    • Represent PRO in civic and community spaces, including presentations, convening’s, and collaborative partnerships.
    • Collaborate with the President and CEO to manage consultant relationships.

    Marketing, PR, & Communications

    • Oversee the communications team to ensure aligned, strategic storytelling across digital, print, and public-facing platforms.
    • Guide brand strategy, messaging, and content creation to elevate PRO’s visibility and impact.
    • Develop and execute communications campaigns supporting fundraising, program launches, and organizational priorities.
    • Collaborate with the communications team to design and distribute the Annual Report, collateral including one-pagers, and media packages.
    • Manage the PRO website and social media channels, in collaboration with the communications team.

    Board Engagement

    • Support the President/CEO, Director of Finance and Operations, and Board Chair in preparing board meeting materials, presentations, and development dashboards.
    • Advise the board on fundraising strategy and help strengthen board members' capacity for relationship-building and donor engagement.
    • Serve as the staff lead for development-related board committees and ad hoc working groups.
    • Maintain high-touch relationships with board members, aligning their expertise and strengths with the PRO mission.

    External Relations & Partnerships

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, partners, community leaders, and key stakeholders.
    • Represent PRO at events, presentations, and community meetings, acting as an ambassador for the organization’s mission and initiatives.
    • Attend networking events locally and statewide, representing PRO’s mission and values.

    Data, Systems, & Reporting

    • Utilize Salesforce (NPSP) to manage donor data, pipelines, campaigns, and reporting dashboards.
    • Ensure accurate, timely tracking of gifts, grants, and fundraising activities in collaboration with finance and operations staff.
    • Use data to inform strategy, forecasting, and decision-making.

    Executive Leadership Support

    • Collaborate closely with the President/CEO to design and implement comprehensive fund development, advancement, and communications strategies that support organizational growth and visibility.
    • Support the President/CEO by managing and maintaining a detailed contact database, including meeting notes, follow-up actions, and strategic relationship insights.
    • Assist the President/CEO in preparing for conferences, panels, meetings, and public events by developing briefing materials, drafting talking points, coordinating presentations, and providing media training as needed.
    • Serve as a strategic partner to the leadership team, ensuring alignment between advancement, program, and collaboration priorities.

    Team Leadership & Staff Oversight

    • Supervise and support the Communications Manager, providing strategic direction, coaching, and professional development to ensure high-quality, mission-aligned communications.
    • Oversee the Advancement Coordinator, including workflow management, training, and alignment with department priorities.
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture grounded in clarity, accountability, and shared purpose.
    • Set goals, conduct performance evaluations, and ensure staff have the tools, guidance, and support needed to succeed.
    • Promote strong cross-departmental communication and coordination to advance fundraising, marketing, and organizational initiatives.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5-7 years’ experience in nonprofit advancement, development, or external relations.
    • Proven ability to write strong grant proposals and donor materials.
    • Experience leading or collaborating with communications and marketing teams.
    • Relationship-driven, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Familiarity with Salesforce or comparable CRM required; NPSP experience preferred.
    • Strong project management, strategic thinking, and presentation skills.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and build relationships across diverse sectors.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Capable of providing Employment Eligibility Verification.
    • Thorough knowledge of general office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.
    • Complete and pass a background screening.
    • Possess a Valid California Driver's license and evidence of insurance coverage.

    • Occasionally the employee will be required to perform work out of the office or other facilities.
    • This is sedentary work in an office setting. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, talk, hear, reach above and below shoulders; use hand and finger dexterity, keyboarding and making and receiving telephone calls. The employee may be required on occasion to lift and or carry up to 25 lbs.
    • The employee frequently is required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    SALARY RANGE

    • $38.00 - $56.00
