Jewish California is looking for a Social Media Manager & Content Producer to help tell the story of California’s Jewish community and advocate for the issues that matter in this moment. This person will play a key role in helping our community understand what’s at stake, what issues are on the table in Sacramento, and why they matter – translating policy, advocacy, and community priorities into clear, compelling social content that informs, engages, and inspires action.
This role is for someone who understands – or is eager to deeply understand – the intersection of Jewish communal life, advocacy, and California policymaking. You know how to take a complicated policy issue and make it accessible and relevant, while also finding the human stories that show why this work matters to Jewish Californians.
You’ll manage Jewish California’s day-to-day presence across Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, X, and YouTube, working closely with the team to identify stories, develop compelling content, and build a consistent and engaging social presence. You will also work on managing relationships with traditional media outlets to pitch stories and opinion pieces.
We’re looking for someone who is an excellent writer and storyteller, highly organized, social media savvy, and comfortable taking initiative. You should be proactive about seeking out the information, assets, access, and context you need to do great work. Initially, you’ll work closely with the Jewish California team, with the expectation that you’ll become increasingly autonomous as you learn the organization, its priorities, its voice, and the broader ecosystem.
There is meaningful room for this role to grow over time.
Responsibilities
- Own the day-to-day management of Jewish California’s Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, and X, with light management of YouTube
- Develop and maintain a social content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, legislative moments, events, and advocacy campaigns
- Write and produce compelling social content that makes policy, advocacy, and civic engagement accessible and relevant 1
- Identify stories and content opportunities across Jewish California’s work, member organizations, community, and policy priorities
- Translate complex or nuanced issues into clear, engaging social-first storytelling
- Create and coordinate a mix of content formats, including graphics, carousels, short-form video, interviews, event coverage, and written posts
- Work proactively with internal stakeholders to gather information, assets, quotes, approvals, and other materials needed to produce content
- Stay on top of social trends, platform best practices, and relevant conversations across the Jewish, civic, and policy landscape
- Support social coverage around key legislative moments, events, community initiatives, and advocacy efforts
- Monitor performance and use insights to continuously improve content and channel strategy
- Help build systems and processes that make Jewish California’s social presence increasingly proactive rather than reactive
- Where appropriate, pitch stories and editorial pieces to traditional media outlets
- Other responsibilities at the discretion of the CEO
Qualifications
- Genuine interest in Jewish communal life and civic engagement, and excitement about the role policy can play in strengthening Jewish life and communities
- Familiarity with the Jewish communal ecosystem – its organizations, issues, institutions, and conversations
- Strong curiosity about policymaking and the legislative process; prior policy experience is helpful but not required
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to make complex subjects clear, human, and engaging
- Strong understanding of social media and what makes content work across different platforms
- Experience managing social media for an organization, brand, nonprofit, advocacy group, political organization, or mission-driven company
- Comfort creating and producing social-first content, particularly short-form video, graphic design, and visual storytelling
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Proactive and resourceful – you don’t wait for everything to land in your inbox; you know how to ask questions, chase down what you need, and keep things moving
- Comfortable receiving direction initially and ultimately taking ownership of the work
- Strong judgment and an understanding of the care required when communicating about sensitive, political, or fast-moving issues
About Jewish California
Jewish California (formerly JPAC) is the voice of California's Jewish community in Sacramento. A coalition of 46 leading Jewish community organizations across the state, we advocate on behalf of the Jewish 2 community's concerns and broadly shared values, and work in coalition with allied organizations on the social justice, human services, and civil rights priorities we hold in common. Our member organizations collectively serve hundreds of thousands of Californians and represent the interests of California's 1.2 million Jews, making us the nation's largest statewide coalition of Jewish organizations.
Since 2022, Jewish California has advocated successfully for over $600 million in state funding for community priorities, and helped pass landmark legislation including AB 715, the first-in-the-nation law addressing antisemitism in K-12 schools.
This is an opportunity to help shape how that work shows up publicly – making policy more accessible, demonstrating the impact of advocacy, and helping more people understand how Jewish Californians can have a voice in the decisions that affect their communities.
