    Overview

Neighborhood Housing Services of NYC (NHSNYC) is seeking a detail-oriented Data Analyst to oversee the collection, organization, analysis, and reporting of program and client data.

This is not a technical programming or IT role. We are looking for a professional who understands nonprofit reporting, funder compliance, and data integrity, who enjoys working with information, identifying trends, ensuring accuracy, and preparing clear reports that support strong program outcomes and funding requirements.

The ideal candidate has experience working with client management systems or program databases, preferably with a focus on housing and/or property management and is comfortable managing recurring reports for government and institutional funders. This role plays a critical part in helping NHSNYC demonstrate impact, maintain compliance, and support informed decision-making across departments.

    Key Responsibilities

    Data Collection & Quality Management

      • Maintain and support the organization’s Client Management System (CounselorMax and related platforms).
      • Ensure accurate and timely data entry standards across departments.
      • Monitor data quality, completeness, and consistency; identify and resolve discrepancies.
      • Develop and document data collection procedures and internal reporting guidelines.
      • Train and support staff on proper data entry and reporting practices.

    Data Analysis & Reporting

      • Collect and analyze client, program, and operational data to identify trends and performance indicators.
      • Prepare recurring and ad hoc reports for leadership, program directors, and external stakeholders.
      • Manage required submissions, including NeighborWorks monthly and quarterly reports and HUD 9902 reporting.
      • Support grant reporting, audits, and compliance requirements for municipal, state, and federal funders.
      • Translate data findings into summaries that support decision-making and funding strategy.

    Cross-Departmental Collaboration

      • Partner with program leadership to ensure data collection aligns with reporting and funding requirements.
      • Support program evaluation efforts by organizing and summarizing outcome data.
      • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes and streamline data workflows.
      • Provide insights that help leadership understand performance trends and program impact.

Who This Role Is Ideal For

This position is well-suited for a data-oriented professional who enjoys organizing information, identifying patterns, and ensuring compliance and reporting accuracy. It is not designed for software developers, engineers, or technical system architects. The primary focus is on data integrity, analysis, reporting, and supporting program effectiveness.

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree required; coursework in data analysis, public policy, social sciences, research, or related field preferred.
    • 3+ years of experience working with program data, reporting systems, or client management databases.
    • Experience preparing reports for government funders or regulatory agencies strongly preferred.
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel required (pivot tables, formulas, data cleaning, report building).
    • Experience working in a nonprofit or community-based organization preferred.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy
    • Ability to organize and interpret large datasets
    • Clear written communication skills for report preparation
    • Ability to translate data into meaningful, non-technical summaries
    • Strong collaboration skills and comfort working across departments
    • Ability to manage deadlines and competing reporting requirements
