Position Profile
The Girls on the Run® Program Director (PD) is a highly skilled professional who provides program leadership, vision, and direction to the council and the broader Girls on the Run organization. The Program Director is responsible for leading and expanding the Girls on the Run programs which includes recruiting volunteer coaches. They will passionately reflect the mission and values of Girls on the Run and will have proven experience in program development, process management, volunteer management and growing program impact. They will have a strong entrepreneurial spirit, attention to detail, excellent relationship-building skills, ability to achieve the revenue goal requirements, and the skill to communicate compelling messages to diverse audiences. The Program Director reports to the Girls on the Run Executive Director. Some of the key responsibilities falling within these areas include:
Program Leadership, Management and Development
- Implement the Girls on the Run strategic plan and achieve program goals with respect to the number of girls served & site locations, revenue goals and demographic requirements
- Develop effective marketing strategies that result in increasing the number of new sites and volunteer coaches each season
- Work with community leaders, schools and other groups to maximize the success of Girls on the Run programming across the council territory
- Manage and support the needs of all new and existing sites
- Educate council and enforce all current site policies and procedures and generate innovation and improvement as needed
- Manage the successful execution of end of season 5k’s
- Act as ambassador to represent the Girls on the Run program; actively participate in existing and potential coaches, sites, caregivers and participants cultivation and solicitation
Coach Management and Training
- Ensure all program sites are staffed with trained and qualified volunteer coaches
- Lead all aspects of coach training, including in-person trainings, track CPR & First Aid, and background checks for compliance purposes
- Work with sites to develop and lead effective coach recruitment and retention strategies
- Oversee, educate, and support the needs of all coach volunteers, periodically holding focus groups with coaches for insights & improvements
- Design and implement coach appreciation opportunities
Curriculum/Equipment Management
- Oversee the purchasing and distribution of all curriculum materials
- Manage the inventory and distribution of coach and program curriculum, materials, and supplies
Budget and Administrative
- Work with the Executive Director to develop the program budget
- Manage and regularly reconcile program budget and YTD actuals
- Oversee the setup and management of program events & volunteer registrations
- Ensure the timely and accurate collection of data; oversee the information management of rosters, girls, numbers, and program revenue
- Develop and oversee program financial assistance policies and procedures
General Responsibilities
- Serve as an ambassador for Girls on the Run, exhibiting Girls on the Run core values at events in the Bay Area
- Attend events (many times at weekends and after work) to promote awareness of the Girls on the Run Program
- Continuously work to achieve the Girls on the Run mission
- Develop positive relationships with volunteers, board members, donors, sponsors, parents, participants, media, and other community members
Required Qualifications
- BA or BS degree
- Minimum of three years demonstrated program development and management in a supervisory role
- Demonstrated adult training and facilitation experience
- Outstanding communication skills with a range of environments and audiences, both internal and external
- Flexible and adaptable; ability to multitask, prioritize, and make efficient decisions and effectively problem solve
- Prior experience and high level of comfort with online data management systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Volunteer management experience
- Project Management and Expense Management
- Demonstrated ability to work build and lead effective teams
- Experience with Girls on the Run (or other similar youth or wellness programs)
- Connections with the local community
Compensation and Benefits:
- This is a salaried, exempt, full-time position offering a compensation range of $85,000-$90,000 annually. Girls on the Run of the Bay Area offers a generous PTO plan and a 401k plan with employer match.
- This position is hybrid – requiring in office attendance at least once a week, and during specific times, frequent attendance. Various (fun!) weekend event attendance required. Preferably candidates would reside in or near San Francisco
