Campaign Communications Organizer
Descripción
Descripción
Inquilinxs Unidxs por Justicia (United Renters for Justice), or IX, was founded to build tenant power to change the housing system in Minneapolis. We are a multi-identity, multi-gender, multi-language, and multi-cultural organization. IX was founded by Latinx community members to organize with renters most impacted by high rents, unsafe conditions, and landlord abuse in the city.
IX is seeking a Campaign Communications Organizer to build and broadcast the powerful stories of our members, our campaigns, our vision, and our values.
About the Role
This is a permanent, salaried, full-time position reporting to the Senior Strategist. The role is focused on organizing members for campaign communications and strategy: helping our campaigns tell their story, growing our reach, and making sure renters are the ones speaking for their own fights.
We are seeking a responsible, focused person who is committed to social justice work, rooted in community, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and as part of a team. The right person will be committed to lifelong learning, willing to give and receive regular feedback, organized and detail-oriented, creative, strategic, and committed to building relationships with our members.
Key Responsibilities
Campaign Strategy and Communications (45%)
- Support organizers across campaigns to build and broadcast IX’s overall organizational narrative, which shapes how we engage with the world in our narrative organizing
- Work within each active organizing campaign (policy, electoral, tenant unions, cooperative) to develop and execute communications strategy, including earned media, public actions, speaker prep, member storytelling, and digital organizing
- Read and synthesize current issues in the housing and social justice landscape to inform campaign messaging
- Shape and propose strategies to build and amplify the stories of renters to our membership, supporters, allied organizations, decision makers, and press
- Share strategic assessments about engaging with the press to shape campaign plans
- Train IX members and coordinate with organizing staff so members can draw out and own their stories of leadership, power, and struggle
- Support organizers in creating campaign materials such as flyers, one-pagers, fact sheets, talking points, and action alerts
- Manage vendors and contractors for campaign needs, including election advertising and graphic design, coordinating timelines, deliverables, and approved budgets with campaign leads
- Gather member stories, quotes, photos, and video with informed consent and care for members’ safety, especially immigrant and undocumented members
Digital and Member Communications (25%)
- Lead IX’s social media presence across all platforms, thinking creatively about how to use or create new mediums where renters’ stories can be told
- Ensure language justice is respected and practiced: coordinate translation so materials go out in Spanish, Somali, and other member languages at the same time as English
- Engage renters and the broader community through newsletters, social media, creative writing, art builds, and other modes of communication
- Provide listserv updates, manage communications databases, and communicate with allies
- Help keep IX’s websites current with campaign news, actions, and announcements
- Maintain a shared content calendar and photo/asset library
- Track simple metrics (reach, sign-ups, turnout from online asks) and share what’s working with the team
Press and Media (15%)
- Support staff and allies in maintaining a presence with media through press advisories, press releases, and regular communication with local and national journalists
- Build, maintain, and grow IX’s relationships with local and national journalists and media outlets, including Spanish-language and Somali outlets, to secure coverage, amplify tenant voices, and advance our campaigns
- Bottom-line the communications side of press conferences, rallies, and direct actions
- Prepare tenant leaders as spokespeople through message practice, interview prep, and debriefs
- Support the organization on rapid response when news breaks that affects our members
- Track media coverage of IX and share it with staff and members
Organizational Responsibilities (15%)
- Build relationships with staff and members to gain a deep understanding of our campaigns and the self-interest of our members
- Participate in and facilitate staff meetings on a rotating schedule
- Support the organizational culture of healthy feedback, evaluation, and planning
- Commit to a culture of vulnerability, giving and receiving feedback, conflict resolution, and loving challenge for personal and organizational growth
- Engage in IX culture, campaigns, meetings, and direct actions as needed
- Share stories, photos, and campaign wins with the development team for their use with funders
- Follow IX’s guidelines for keeping 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) communications separate, especially during electoral work

- Willingness to grow within a team and give and receive feedback across differences in position and identity
- Aligned and committed to IX’s values and mission
- Basic skills in research, synthesis, and analysis
- Ability to problem solve, take initiative, and manage your own schedule
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of the organization, including Board members, IX members, staff, and volunteers

- Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends
