The National Museum of Mathematics is pleased to announce the 2025–2026 MoMath Exponent Fellowship program. A limited number of graduating math majors from around the country will be accepted for this highly selective, paid, year-long opportunity to work at the National Museum of Mathematics, where they will:

    • Interact with the public as a mathematical docent on the exhibit floor.
    • Build outreach and communication skills.
    • Enhance their mathematical knowledge.
    • Meet mathematicians from around the world.
    • Be given the opportunity to develop and complete a unique personal project.
    • Interact with the Museum’s senior leadership team and the Visiting Professor.
    • Learn what it takes to operate a successful business.
    • Gain exposure to a variety of interesting programs, lectures, and people.
    • Be part of a motivated and talented cohort.

    The successful candidate will have:

    • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in mathematics with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • A creative mindset, with an ability to think outside the box.
    • A desire to share the joy of mathematics with others.
    • Prior experience demonstrating a solid work ethic.
    • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States for 14 months without visa sponsorship from the Museum.

Total compensation for this position in the 2025-2026 fellowship program will be approximately $52,000, with roughly $47,000 paid during the program and a $5,000 completion bonus.

To apply, please email the following to exponent@momath.org with a subject line that includes “MoMath Exponent Fellowship” and your first and last name:

    • A cover letter that explains how you meet the qualifications for the position.
    • A current résumé, including grade point average.
    • A statement describing your views on mathematics or a life experience you’ve had related to mathematics (no more than one page, please).
    • Three letters of reference, including two from your college math professors and one from your most recent manager or supervisor from a position you’ve held. (Letters should be submitted directly by your recommenders to exponent@momath.org.)

Qualified first-round candidates will be offered an interview. A select number of those interviewed will be invited to share additional information; further details will be provided to those accepted into the second round.

Fellows must be able to be present in New York City from December 18, 2025, through December 31, 2026 (December Fellows), or from July 10, 2026, through July 24, 2027 (Summer Fellows), and will be responsible for securing their own accommodations.

The application deadline is May 15, 2026, for Summer Fellows. Please note that the application window may close earlier if the program fills. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is strongly encouraged.

Incomplete application packages will not be considered.
