Over the last two decades, ExpandED Schools’ program, research and policy efforts have led to increased recognition of the academic, social, and emotional benefits of afterschool, increased funding, and new models for school-community partnership.

    Purpose of Position

    ExpandED Schools has a sector-focused Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) contract through the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD). ExpandED partners with year round work-based learning programs to enroll their youth into SYEP. In this role, the Career Connected Learning Associate will collaborate with program partners throughout the SYEP enrollment process. This includes collecting applications, documents, conducting orientation, and assigning young people to worksites. Additionally, the Associate will collaborate with partners through the worksite approval process, which includes collecting worksite applications and conducting pre-assessments.

    In the Spring, the Associate of Career Connected Learning will hire and supervise 3 Summer Field Specialists who will each conduct 10-15 site visits weekly to monitor student’s placements. The Associate will be supervised by the Program Director, Career Connected Learning.

    Summary of Duties & Responsibilities:

    • To implement the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), the Associate will work collaboratively with ExpandED Schools’ staff and work-based learning program partners to coordinate the enrollment process, compliance, and overall program management. This includes the following:
    • Work with work-based learning program partners to collect student applications, and documents. Keep data collection in a clear format consistent with reporting requirements.
    • Schedule and conduct orientation for SYEP youth.
    • Work with work-based learning program partners to collect worksite applications, documents, and assignments. Keep data collection in a clear format consistent with reporting requirements.
    • Attend DYCD sponsored monthly meetings, training, and other events as needed.
    • Schedule and attend regular check-ins with work-based learning program partners.
    • Manage and update partner lists.
    • Hire and supervise 3 Summer Field Specialists.
    • Schedule site visits for worksite pre-assessments, summer assessments with field specialists, and with DYCD staff as requested.
    • Implement procedures for collecting incident reports for SYEP participants.
    • Ensure all programmatic information and data are organized in accordance with DYCD's audit requirements for SYEP.
    • Assist research and reporting efforts as needed by collecting data and documenting support to students and program partners.
    • Administrative help as needed.

    Desired Qualifications:

    • High School diploma and at least 3 years’ experience working with public and private non-profit institutions, or equivalent work experience.
    • Experience working in education and /or youth development.
    • Knowledge of principles of youth development.
    • Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
    • Attention to detail and high standards for presentation of written material.
    • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency with the Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides) and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel) is required.
    • Desire to work collaboratively and participate as a member of a diverse team.
    • Strong cultural competence with respect for and knowledge of the cultures of stakeholders we work with and communities we serve
    • Deep commitment and passion for educational equity and the young people of New York City.
    • Flexibility, adaptability, and comfort with complexity and change
    • Willingness and ability to travel, frequently within New York City and occasionally outside the city.
    • Experience with administering SYEP is a plus.
