Joy Education Foundation is a technology-driven nonprofit dedicated to reducing inequities in access to affordable literacy support for low-income communities. Through Virtual Reading Clinics, Mobile Reading Clinics, and a Digital Foundational Reading Skills Curriculum, we use innovation and community partnerships to strengthen literacy outcomes. Our next stage of product innovation includes developing AI-enabled learning tools and gamified reading experiences that make practice interactive, motivating, and accessible for all students.

Position Overview
We are seeking a Junior WordPress Designer / Developer to support ongoing website development projects. This is a part-time independent contractor position for approximately 10 hours per week at $25 per hour. The ideal candidate is able to work independently, communicate clearly, and build high-quality WordPress pages using low-code / no-code tools in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop pages on a WordPress website
- Use low-code / no-code tools (Elementor, Gutenberg, plugins, etc.) to build and update site content
- Work independently to complete assigned development tasks
- Document progress, updates, and iterations clearly
- Communicate regularly about project status and blockers
- Follow existing design and formatting standards
- Make revisions based on feedback in a timely manner
Requirements
- Experience working with WordPress websites
- Ability to use low-code / no-code website builders within WordPress
- Strong ability to work independently without =supervision
- Comfortable working on high-priority / high-stakes projects
- Strong written communication skills
- Ability to document development progress and changes
- Reliable and responsive
Collaboration with Product Management & Design Fellows
- Attend weekly product syncs with the Product Management and Product Design Fellows.
- Partner with the Design Fellow to ensure prototypes reflect user-centered design principles.
- Work with the Product Management Fellow to prioritize testing cycles and refine AI/gamification features.
- Contribute to pilot rollouts in Virtual Reading Clinics, Mobile Clinics, and family literacy programs.
