CONSERVATION TECHNICIAN

POSITION OVERVIEW

The conservation technician will be a member of and support Seatuck’s conservation team and

work under the supervision of conservation staff. This role supports projects focused on

protecting, preserving and restoring habitat for priority species including horseshoe crabs,

diamondback terrapins, diadromous fish, river otters and seabirds.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist with wildlife monitoring, habitat assessments and environmental sampling
• Collect accurate field data following established protocols
• Assist with data entry, basic data review and reporting as needed
• Support equipment deployment, maintenance and retrieval
• Work collaboratively with conservation staff, interns and volunteers
• Support community science and conservation programs as needed
• Follow all established safety, field and operational procedures
• Participate in training opportunities and contribute to the improvement of fieldwork practices

• Associate’s degree or higher in biology, environmental science or related field, ideally with some experience in field-based marine, riverine or wildlife conservation science
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good organizational, record-keeping and communication skills
• Experience with basic data entry and record management
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
• Valid New York State driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Experience operating small boats and/or flying drones
• Familiarity with basic field and laboratory equipment
• Physical requirements include ability to work outdoors in varied conditions, to work on boat and uneven terrains, to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and to bend, kneel, stand, climb ladders, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods
