    About Ben Porat Yosef (BPY)

Ben Porat Yosef is more than a school — it’s a sacred partnership between families and educators, a dynamic learning environment, and a deeply rooted community grounded in Torah values and academic excellence. Since its founding in 2001, BPY has grown into a premier yeshiva day school in Northern New Jersey, serving approximately 500 children from Early Childhood through Eighth Grade with a fully integrated curriculum of General and Judaic Studies.

Located in Paramus, New Jersey, BPY is a warm, nurturing, and vibrant Modern Orthodox institution that honors the individual potential of every child. The school actively fosters Ahavat Yisrael, deep Hebrew fluency, a love for Torah and mitzvot, and the tools to navigate both the Jewish and general world with confidence and compassion. With students from across Bergen County and beyond, BPY reflects the richness of our greater Jewish community while remaining focused on a shared vision: raising the next generation of committed, curious, and compassionate Jewish leaders.

This position is responsible for fostering the culture of philanthropy that supports our educational excellence, community warmth, and long-term growth. BPY’s growth has been made possible through the generosity and commitment of our parent body, alumni families, and broader Jewish community. Our Annual Campaign, celebration dinner, spring celebration, and capital campaign reflect a community of stakeholders who are deeply invested in the school’s future. This position will collaborate closely with Communications, Admissions, Finance, and Educational Leadership to ensure that every message, campaign, and event reflects BPY’s mission, values, and voice.

    Director of Development: Position Overview

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all fundraising-related initiatives to support BPY’s mission. Working closely with the Head of School, Associate Head of School, Board of Trustees as well as the school’s Finance, Communications, and Programming departments, the Director of Development ensures all development efforts align with institutional goals, foster meaningful donor engagement, and meet revenue targets. This role reports to the Associate Head of School and is supported by a dedicated committee of volunteers and lay leaders.

The Director of Development plays a key role in advancing the school's fundraising strategy, strengthening donor relationships, growing philanthropic revenue, and amplifying the educational and communal impact of BPY.

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership & Strategy

    • Drive all fundraising and engagement initiatives, including the annual campaign, corporate giving, capital and endowment campaigns, and legacy giving
    • Implement and refine the school’s strategic annual development plan
    • Champion best practices in donor stewardship, data management, and impact reporting
    • Partner with Marketing & Communications to consistently elevate the visibility of philanthropy in school messaging
    • Work in tandem with Finance to maintain transparent reporting and track fundraising performance

    Event Planning and Management

    • Plan and execute approximately two large fundraising events annually: including the annual dinner and spring celebration
    • Develop and manage detailed event timelines, budgets, and work plans
    • Coordinate all event logistics: venue selection, vendor management, catering, A/V, décor, and on-site staffing
    • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to produce compelling event materials and follow-up
    • Maintain event records, sponsorship details, and post-event evaluations
    • Analyze event outcomes and implement recommendations for improvement
    • Work collaboratively with the larger team on all donor cultivation events, alumni gatherings, and special community initiatives

    Volunteer and Stakeholder Collaboration

    • Recruit, train, and manage event volunteers and committee members
    • Serve as the liaison to event and campaign committees, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals
    • Support the Major Gifts Committee in identifying and cultivating prospects, with emphasis on current parents, alumni, and community partners

    Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a thoughtful, energetic, and highly organized professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and is passionate about Jewish education and community building.

    You are*:

    • Experienced in fundraising and events (5+ years)
    • A confident project manager with the ability to juggle multiple priorities
    • A collaborative team player and effective communicator
    • Comfortable working with a range of audiences and stakeholders
    • Passionate about philanthropy and Jewish education
    • Detail-oriented and systems-minded
    • Familiar with fundraising best practices and financial reporting
    • Flexible, proactive, and excited to grow with a mission-driven organization
    • We recognize that no candidate will meet every qualification. If you’re excited about the opportunity and believe your experience could contribute to our mission, we encourage you to apply by sending a letter of interest and resume to careers@benporatyosef.org
