    Descripción

For more than 112 years, FMDG Music School has provided accessible music education to students who are blind or have low vision. We teach private lessons, ensembles, and group classes for children and adults, and we produce braille and large-print music for our students and for partners across the country. Our programs operate at 92NY, at our office at 61 Claremont Avenue in Manhattan, and with partner institutions in multiple US cities.

    THE ROLE

This is an immediate hire. The Business Manager is the financial and operational backbone of the school. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Executive Director, and working on-site at our Claremont office, this person keeps our books accurate, our billing and payroll running, our donor records clean, and our compliance current. This is a hands-on role for someone who is strong in nonprofit accounting and equally comfortable with the operational details that keep a small school running.

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    Finance and accounting

Maintain the general ledger in Aplos using fund accounting across restricted and unrestricted funds

Record biweekly payroll journal entries and reconcile them to ADP reporting

Perform monthly bank reconciliations and prepare monthly financial statements for the Chief of Staff, Executive Director, and Finance and Audit Committee

Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable

Support the annual audit and Form 990 preparation with our external accountant and auditor

Operate within FMDG’s documented financial procedures and internal controls

    Billing

Oversee monthly tuition billing in Opus1, including family and faculty communication

Track braille music transcription and other earned revenue from events and workshops

    Tax and compliance

Oversee annual 1099s and file sales tax

Coordinate payroll tax remittance with ADP

    Human resources and contracts

Manage new employee onboarding and maintain employee and contractor agreements

Administer employee benefit plans (health, dental, vision, and 403(b))

Maintain HR compliance and personnel records

Manage insurance policies and broker relationships

    Donor operations

Enter gifts into Keela (our donor CRM) and generate timely, accurate donation receipts and acknowledgments

Coordinate with the Development team on stewardship

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business, or equivalent professional experience

At least three to five years of nonprofit accounting and operations experience, ideally including fund accounting, restricted funds, and grant tracking

Proficiency with accounting software (Aplos or comparable) and strong Excel skills

Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP) and donor CRMs (Keela or comparable)

Excellent organization, accuracy, discretion with confidential information, and the ability to work independently

Comfort implementing and improving systems, not only maintaining them

A helpful plus: experience with Opus1 or education billing, familiarity with Form 990, and prior work in an arts or education nonprofit.

    Compensación

    Health, dental, and vision coverage

    403(b) plan

    All federal holidays

    Generous paid time off

    Subsidized cafeteria on-site

    Nivel de Idiomas

    English
