Project Managers at California Forward (CA FWD) support the CEO and organizational leadership in the management and coordination of a suite of programs, initiatives, special projects, and events within CA FWD, as well as its partners at the California Stewardship Network. The Social Media & Communications Manager supports with research, planning, strategy development, and implementation of CA FWD’s social media strategy. The Social Media & Communications Manager will report to the direction of the Director of Communications (though individual initiatives may have other leaders), and work in coordination with other CA FWD staff, consultants, and partners, to effectively plan and implement specific components of program and project activities. This position will primarily manage CA FWD’s social and digital media activities. This role will also support additional programs and initiatives, including the California Economic Summit and other core assets toward achieving regional and statewide goals.
Specifically, the Social Media & Communications Manager will:
- Build and implement CA FWD’s social media strategy to highlight CA FWD’s mission, vision, values, strategic priorities, programs, and events
- Manage and maintain CA FWD’s digital communication platforms including social media channels (LinkedIn, YouTube, X, and others as identified)
- Manage and maintain the CA FWD website, including updating content as needed and working with web developer for ongoing maintenance
- Develop, edit, and support the creation original content, including written social media posts, video, graphics, and other mediums
- Contribute to the development of CA FWD papers, briefs, annual reports, blog posts, and other written pieces, as needed and develop related social media strategy
- Track and analyze social media and website metrics and analytics, including social listening
- Support the development of CA FWD's newsletter to align related social media content that highlights CA FWD and partner content; support e-blasts as needed
- Support the Director of Communications in media monitoring for key issues important to the organization
- Support the CA FWD Team in maintaining a high standard of quality in communications products including writing, editing, reviewing content, and developing team communications skills
- Support advancement of CA FWD priorities across other program areas, including:
- Developing and refining an individual work plan that complements other staff work plans and is aligned with the mission and goals of the organization
- Supporting and managing activities in the lead up to and implementation of the organization’s annual conference (the California Economic Summit) and other events
- Responding to grant opportunities and written requests for proposals
- Assistance or management of special projects, as assigned
- Support and collaborate across CA FWD on special projects, as needed
- Participate in other organizational meetings and activities, as appropriate
- Perform other duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is preferred (communications, journalism, marketing)
- At least 4 years’ experience in social media/content development, communications, public affairs/public policy, and/or public relations/marketing
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a passion for storytelling
- Experience managing social media accounts, developing strategic external messages, and adaptability in the social media landscape
- Highly collaborative, responsive, and flexible/adaptable
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent team communication and interpersonal skills, including working in a fully remote team environment
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Detail-oriented, including the ability to manage multiple deliverables simultaneously
- Proficient in Google and Microsoft Workspaces and other project management software (e.g. Asana)
- Proficient in the following or similar software: Canva, WordPress, MailChimp, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other social media platforms
- Preferred experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator), Meltwater or similar, and Salesforce or similar
- Knowledge of program budget management
- Ability to work flexible hours as required
- Ability to work in a remote environment
- Ability to travel within California when necessary, including to quarterly in-person staff retreats and the California Economic Summit
Location: Remote, CA residency required.
Start date: Ideally, the successful candidate will start mid-May1 or earlier.
Salary Range: $70,000 to $80,000 depending on experience. This is an exempt position and includes a generous benefit package.
