Under the direction of the Programs Director, the Prevention Coordinator will connect with DC public, private, and charter schools to help build their capacity to identify and address healthy, unhealthy, and abusive relationships among youth. The Prevention Coordinator will assist with research, curriculum development, training, and technical assistance on policies, laws, protections, and resources guiding educators about dating and domestic violence, bystander intervention, and prevention education. Additionally, the Coordinator will serve as the Coalition’s representative at various public gatherings, community organization meetings, and training programs around youth engagement.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Conduct research and identify curricula and best practices that promote social norms that protect against violence and increase protective factors.
Build community knowledge and skill development in facilitating violence prevention through training and technical assistance, coaching, community education, and research amongst DC public, private, and charter schools.
Participate in working groups around youth violence prevention to help grow capacity for violence prevention efforts in the District and inform policy and program development.
Research best practices and other models of dating and sexual violence prevention programming, such as health education standards, mandatory reporting requirements, and positive youth development models.
Related Skills and Experience
Demonstrated knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence (also referred to as intimate partner, gender-based, family violence and/or domestic terrorism), its prevalence, and community impact.
Commitment to the eradication of gender-based violence.
Experience working with children and youth.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or at 3 to 5 years of in person and virtual training and/or teaching experience, including drafting curricula and facilitation, preferably related to gender-based violence.
Previous experience working for a DC-based domestic violence service provider preferred.
Excellent communication, writing, and public speaking skills.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
Demonstrated expertise in curricula design and/or training and facilitation.
Ability to work autonomously and as a team member.
Ability to attend to multiple projects and tasks.
Candidate must be organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
Additional Information
The person filling this role must be willing to work a hybrid schedule in DCCADV’s offices and be able to travel in and around DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia to work purposes as needed.
DCCADV employees are subject to Mayoral orders regarding vaccinations and masking requirements and will be expected to follow any subsequent mandates, as well as DCCADV policies.
Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.
