Buxton School, a progressive, coeducational boarding and day school in the Berkshire mountains of Western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic and visionary Director of Admissions to lead and fortify its enrollment program at a pivotal moment in the school’s history. Nestled on a beautiful campus in the Berkshires, Buxton offers an educational experience that blends academic rigor with artistic exploration and a strong sense of community stewardship. The Director of Admissions will play a critical leadership role in sharing that story with the world.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Admissions is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive, forward-thinking admissions strategy to attract and enroll a diverse, mission-aligned student body. This role requires a charismatic and driven leader who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, brings fresh ideas, and is eager to strengthen the admissions program.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Admissions Oversight
- Develop and implement a comprehensive admissions strategy aligned with the school’s mission and enrollment goals
- Analyze admissions data, trends, and outcomes to refine strategies and drive continuous improvement
- Lead efforts to invigorate the admissions program in alignment with the school’s strategic priorities and upcoming centennial
- Manage and optimize the use of admissions and financial aid platforms, including Blackbaud, Clarity, and the Standard Application Online (SAO)
- Oversee all aspects of the admissions process, including inquiry management, application review, interviews, and decision-making
- Ensure a process that is thoughtful, equitable, transparent, and reflective of Buxton’s values
Community Engagement & Storytelling
- Serve as the primary ambassador for Buxton’s admissions program
- Build authentic relationships with prospective students and families, conveying the distinctive Buxton experience
- Collaborate closely with communications and development teams to craft compelling messaging and outreach strategies
- Represent the school at fairs, events, and other public forums
- Travel regularly for school visits, conferences, and recruitment events throughout the year
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with feeder schools, educational consultants, and community-based organizations
- Expand networks and partnerships to broaden the school’s reach and strengthen the applicant pipeline
- Immerse in the life of the school by building relationships with students, faculty, and staff
- Develop a deep understanding of the Buxton experience in order to authentically share its stories and values
Operations & Compliance
- Develop and manage the admissions budget, ensuring strategic allocation of resources
- Maintain meticulous records and oversee admissions systems and data integrity
- Ensure all admissions practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards
- Provide regular reports to school leadership and the Board on enrollment metrics, trends, and challenges

- Experience in admissions, enrollment management, or related fields; boarding school experience preferred but not required
- Background in education (including former teaching experience) is a plus
- Responsibilities may vary based on school needs
Compensation
- The salary range for this role is $80,000-$100,000 annually and includes our full package of benefits.
