Position Overview
Global Strays is seeking a bilingual (English/Spanish) International Programs Manager to oversee and strengthen our international animal welfare programs while becoming an integral part of our small, collaborative team.
The role is responsible for managing staff and partner relationships, ensuring program accountability, developing and maintaining strong program management systems, and helping enhance and advance our humane education program.
This role goes beyond program oversight and requires someone who is engaged across the organization, contributes ideas, and plays a meaningful role in the continued development of our programs and mission.
This position reports to the President and plays a central role in maintaining the integrity, effectiveness, and continued development of our work abroad.
While this is a contract position, we are seeking someone interested in making a meaningful long-term contribution to Global Strays and our mission.
This is a remote contract position of 30 hours per week, offering a collaborative and flexible working environment. Our team holds weekly meetings, and regular availability for check-ins and collaboration with team members—particularly during morning and early afternoon hours—is highly preferred.
Core Responsibilities
Program Oversight & Partner Management
- Manage international programs in Colombia, Nicaragua, Liberia, and future regions
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with our staff in the countries we serve, as well as our veterinary and animal welfare partners.
- Establish and uphold Standards of Practice and Memorandums of Understanding
- Regularly communicate with staff and partners on the ground and conduct check-ins to monitor compliance, progress, and impact
Systems & Accountability
- Build and maintain clear systems for documentation, record keeping, and program tracking
- Compile and maintain itemized monthly funding needs for staff and partners across each program
- Prepare monthly funding requests for review and disbursement by the President
- Review and track partner expenses with systems like Expensify
- Track impact metrics and compile program reports, i.e. end-of-year summaries
Coordination & Communication
- Maintain a comprehensive Programs Calendar for veterinary clinics, humane education workshops, and other programmatic events
- Coordinate communication between international partners and the internal Global Strays team
- Support the Communications team by helping gather engaging photos, videos, stories, and other program content that helps connect donors with our work and the communities we serve
- Assist with translated materials and provide program updates for communications
Program Development & Growth
- Contribute ideas for strengthening and improving programs, including our humane education initiatives
- Collaborate with leadership to explore opportunities for responsible program expansion
Qualifications
- Fluency in Spanish (written and spoken) required
- Minimum 3 years of experience managing projects and/or programs
- Experience developing systems and maintaining strong documentation and record-keeping practices
- Experience tracking expenses, and program reporting
- Experience working with international partners strongly preferred
- Experience in animal welfare or a strong familiarity with the field is strongly preferred
- Experience working for a nonprofit organization is a plus
- Strong interest in humane education and developing educational materials related to animal welfare preferred
