    Descripción

The Center for Transnational Environmental Accountability (CTEA) is looking for a consultant to support us in continuing with our strategic planning process. CTEA began the process two years ago, developing a preliminary mission and vision statement. Given the changing nature and content of its work, CTEA needs to revisit these statements, and pursue a full strategic planning process.

Scope of Work: Working with CTEA management, design and lead this planning process, in order to develop the deliverables listed below. This may include:

    • Conducting a series of consultations with staff, Board members, funders, and other stakeholders of CTEA, to be identified by CTEA management, to develop a baseline understanding of CTEA’s activities, guiding principles, organizational structure, and impact.
    • Use these findings to prepare and lead the strategic planning, envisioned to be done as an in-person activity, involving all staff - with other stakeholders participating at times as deemed useful.
    • To the extent determined to be needed or advisable, conduct desk research, contact peer organizations, and schedule follow-up conversations with key stakeholders in order to analyze the internal and external strategic landscape.
    • Present and discuss draft findings with CTEA management, and revise and finalize these findings based on those discussions.

    Deliverables

    • Work with CTEA to clarify and define the organization’s mission, vision, values and theory of change – considering why the organization exists, where is it (or should it be) going, key objectives and core principles.
    • A situational analysis of the strategic landscape, including an assessment of the external and internal environments (which may include a SWOT analysis).
    • A document identifying key focal areas for the organization, setting strategic goals and objectives.
    • Formulate strategies and develop three-to-five year action plans with measurable outcomes.
    • A monitoring and evaluation framework to track compliance with the strategic plan.

    Consultant Requirements

    • Experience leading strategic planning processes for US-based non-profit organizations.
    • Experience working with organizations whose work is international in nature.
    • Knowledge of basic international environmental justice and human rights law and/or their guiding principles.
    • Familiarity with international investment framework, including business and human rights aspects, especially in the extractive industries sector.

NOTE: While some consultancy work can be done remotely, face-time with the 5 CTEA staff members in Washington DC will also be required, particularly in developing the draft of the strategic plan.
