    POSITION TITLE: Communications Coordinator

    F.L.S.A. STATUS: Full-time (Exempt)

    DIVISION: External Affairs

    REPORTS TO: Senior Communications Manager

    SUMMARY OF POSITION: We are looking for a highly skilled, self-motivated individual to be our Communications Coordinator. The position reports directly to the Senior Communications Manager and works closely with the External Affairs Department and collaborates with others across the Foundation. This position is responsible for supporting the Foundation’s communications outreach along with operational and administrative projects.

    Hybrid position: Applicant is required to live in the DC area (DC, MD or VA) and will have a hybrid work schedule with 2-3 days a week in the office.

    RESPONSIBILITES:

    Working closely with Senior Communications Manager the core responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:

    Education/General Communications:

      • Create and manage Foundation communication plans for events, conferences, workshops and more. Assist in executing plans.
      • Draft Foundation press releases, blog posts and other pieces as assigned. Support the Senior Communications Manager in the process for blog posts and updates as assigned.
      • Help to update and maintain the Foundation’s website. This includes posting blogs using Wordpress, making simple copy edits, changing out images, adding backend tags and descriptions per SEO best practices, and more.
      • Support the Senior Communications Manager in collecting external prevention and early detection personal stories and finding the appropriate avenue/s for sharing (e.g., blog, video). Support content partnership efforts with other patient advocacy organizations, corporations and influencers.
      • Update and maintain Foundation materials, including but not limited to case for support, Foundation overview, and new subscriber emails.
      • Stay up to date on cancer prevention and early detection news to create weekly news digest.

    Social Media:

      • Support the Senior Communications Manager in social media responsibilities, including maintaining account pages, monitoring and responding to messages and requests, flagging posts of note, and drafting and scheduling social media copy.
      • Create, film and edit social media videos in-app (e.g., Instagram, TikTok) and with Adobe Premiere.
      • Appear in social media videos to educate the general public and enhance engagement with and visibility of the Foundation.
      • Monitor social trends across multiple platforms and brainstorm content ideas on a regular basis.
      • Create graphic assets for social media.

    Email:

      • Draft Foundation emails for events, campaigns, newsletters and more.
      • Based on approved copy and images, build external emails in Constant Contact and Online Express and project manage the email send process.
      • Analyze, track and report on Foundation email results.
      • Monitor general email inbox responses, drafting appropriate responses as needed and forwarding messages to the correct teams in a timely fashion.

    Press/Media:

      • Responsible for all monitoring, reporting, tracking and archiving of Foundation and related news in Cision and TV Eyes. Flag articles for Foundation interest, response or pitching.
      • Draft op-eds and letters to the editor on a variety of topics, project manage for approval and submit to publications.
      • Build media lists, pitch to media outlets and create all postings for the wire. Media pitching may ramp up during certain times of year and be less time-consuming other times.

    Operational/Administrative:

      • Assist the Database Manager in entering data and gift information into Raiser’s Edge and otherwise maintaining the database.
      • Create weekly gift acknowledgement letters and send them in the mail.
      • Support the Vice President of Marketing and Development and the Managing Director of External Affairs in fundraising campaigns including creating timelines, managing deadlines, drafting copy, conducting post- analysis and reporting.
      • Perform other administrative duties and tasks as assigned. Support Foundation projects, as needed.
      • Other tasks as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

      • Bachelor’s degree required; Marketing or communications degree preferred.
      • 2-3 years fundraising or communications experience.
      • Comfortable representing the Foundation on camera as one of its key spokespersons in social media and video content.
      • Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge and Online Express or Constant Contact preferred.
      • Working knowledge of Cision or similar media database preferred.
      • Working knowledge of video editing software (Adobe Premiere) preferred.
      • Working knowledge of Canva preferred.
      • Willingness to learn required!

    QUALIFICATIONS:

      • Excellent writing and public speaking skills.
      • Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
      • Strong attention to details and accuracy.
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based research skills, and comfortable working with social media networks (X, Facebook, etc.), as well as Blackbaud software.
      • Proactive, flexible, team player.
      • Occasional evening and weekend work required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
    • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

    SALARY RANGE: $45,000 - $50,000 (depending on experience)
