Director

Location: Flexible (with international and domestic travel)

Regions: Work will center around the Caribbean, Latin America, New Mexico, and the U.S., ideally with a home base in a major travel hub like Miami or Houston

Tim’s Big Heart Foundation exists to connect and empower local organizations supporting individuals with special needs. Inspired by Tim Harris—a joyful entrepreneur with Down syndrome who owned and operated the world’s first restaurant run by someone with his condition—this Foundation champions his belief that love is a superpower. Our work spans Latin America, the Caribbean, New Mexico, U.S. with a focus on collaboration, dignity, and inclusion.

We’re looking for a Director who thrives in cross-cultural settings and brings a mix of leadership, coordination, and heart. This role will lead regional activity, acting as a liaison and coalition-builder with local partners. In Latin America and the Caribbean, you’ll serve as an in-country non-profit organization coordinators, connecting native-led organizations, sparking shared action, and amplifying what’s working on the ground. In the U.S.—especially New Mexico—you’ll do the same.

Unlike traditional nonprofit roles, this position does not require fundraising. Our model is Inspire. Connect. Act. —and the Director will drive each of those pillars by supporting changemakers already in motion.

Must-Haves

• Leadership experience in community-building, fieldwork, or social impact initiatives
• Demonstrated ability to operate with autonomy in early-stage or unstructured environments—must be a self-starter who takes initiative, solves problems, and drives action without waiting for direction
• Excellent relationship-building skills across diverse cultures and sectors
• Regular domestic and international travel required, potentially exceeding 50% of your schedule
• Comfortable with fluid, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environments
• Strong communicator and listener, both written and verbal
• Passion for disability inclusion and supporting under-resourced communities
• No nonprofit background required—but initiative and follow-through are essential
• Mission-aligned and culturally sensitive
• Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder networks or local partnerships

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience working in the Caribbean and Latin America
• Multilingual (especially Spanish or regional languages)
• Familiarity with disability rights, trauma healing, or grassroots organizing
• Experience coordinating multi-stakeholder networks or local partnerships
• IF (not required) in the US, based out of Miami or Houston for ease of travel to Latin America and Caribbean
