    Established in 1970, the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press (Reporters Committee) provides pro bono legal representation, amicus curiae support, and other legal resources to protect First Amendment freedoms and the newsgathering rights of journalists. Reporters Committee serves news organizations, reporters, documentary filmmakers, media lawyers, and many more who use its online resources.

    Job Description

    The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press seeks a detail-oriented, data-savvy, and enthusiastic person to manage development operations and relations with donors. The Development Operations Coordinator is an integral position within a vibrant Development Department at a growing national organization. This position will support the Development Department in planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of fundraising activities, with a focus on accurate, timely, and data-driven operations. The Development Operations Coordinator will also provide administrative support to the department as needed.

    The effective fundraiser is creative, kind, detail-oriented, juggles multiple projects simultaneously, and communicates clearly with a variety of audiences. Strong skills in Microsoft Office and Google Suite are expected. The ideal candidate will demonstrate these qualities and will be motivated by the Reporters Committee’s mission. Familiarity with Salesforce or other development databases, email marketing systems, and donor prospecting or research software products is a strong plus.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Manage Salesforce pipeline of opportunities, both individual and foundations, and oversee the updating of status/amount/deadlines/etc.
    • Manage fundraising calendar that integrates face-to-face solicitation, special events, annual fund campaigns (print and digital), special campaigns, grant management, and other activities as appropriate
    • Enter gifts in Salesforce and promptly and accurately acknowledge donors
    • Maintain logins and enter transactions from workplace and other giving portals (i.e. Benevity, YourCause, Blackbaud, etc.)
    • Track pledges and send invoices for pending donor payments (gala, corporate or foundation gifts, etc.)
    • Maintain logins to foundation portals and nonprofit giving sites (i.e. Charity Navigator, Guidestar, etc.) with information on programming, financials, and governance
    • Execute email marketing campaigns and donor outreach emails with approved language, using Salesforce donor segments and familiarity with email editing software
    • Conduct wealth screening and prospecting of individuals in our database for major giving

    The Development Operations Coordinator is supervised by the Senior Manager of Development.

    Qualifications

    • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to multi-task and work independently to meet deadlines
    • A high level of computer literacy in Google Suite, Microsoft Word and Excel, and (if possible) proficiency with Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack, donor research tools, and email marketing
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong writing skills, and the ability to work well on deadline
    • Demonstrated commitment to mission-based organizations
    • Knowledge of best practices in the areas of fundraising, prospect research, event management, stewardship and cultivation will be helpful
    • Demonstrated experience in supporting donor events is a plus
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Minimum 2 years of related nonprofit work experience

    Location - Position hybrid (2-3 days in office per week) in the Washington, DC metro area

    Compensation and Benefits

    Salary range, based on experience, is $62,900 - $67,400 for a candidate based in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Our generous benefit package should also be considered. For all regular full-time positions, the Reporters Committee offers:

    • A competitive base salary with 3 weeks paid time off, 4 annual floating days, and all Federal holidays;
    • A retirement savings plan, including a 5% employer contribution after 3 months of service;
    • Comprehensive employer paid insurance coverage, including medical, dental, vision, life and accidental death, and disability;
    • Ability to use pre-tax dollars for dependent care and commuting expenses.
