    About Swipe Out Hunger: Swipe Out Hunger is the national nonprofit powering the movement to end college student hunger. Swipe Out Hunger collaborates with colleges, legislators, and the greater community to address student food insecurity by championing hunger solutions, building an active network of campuses and partners, and evolving the narrative around today’s college students.     Role Description: The Development Director drives fundraising strategies and provides innovative and strategic leadership for the advancement of Swipe Out Hunger’s mission and vision. The position will bring a knowledge of both traditional and innovative fundraising methods, and should be open to tackling fundraising with the complex and systemic understanding of the intersection of hunger and higher education. The Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing Swipe Out Hunger’s fundraising including foundation, corporation, and individual revenue streams as well as any special events. The Director works closely with the VP of External Affairs and Executive Director in all fundraising endeavors and oversees development personnel activities, including the hiring, definition of job responsibilities, and performance review process of each development staff member.

    Responsibilities:

    Philanthropy Initiatives & Partnerships

    • Identify potential partners based on the organization’s strategic goals, evaluating alignment through a value-based rubric
    • Manage identification, research, relationship-building, solicitation, stewardship and data management of foundation, corporate, and individual donors.
    • Personally manage a portfolio of foundation and corporate donors.
    • Lead foundation and corporate grant research, LOI and proposal writing, and reporting

    requirements

    • Advise senior leadership on financial and in-kind opportunities
    • Oversee creation of communications and publications to support fundraising activities
    • Collaborate with the Communications staff to design and deploy digital campaigns, and annual giving initiatives, using donor segmentation to optimize messaging, retention, and gift size.
    • Partner with the Finance Department to conduct monthly reconciliations, ensuring all philanthropic revenue is accurately coded, donor intent is honored, and department budgets remain aligned with organizational financial statements.

    Senior Leadership & Strategic Management

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes team engagement
    • Work closely with the leadership team to proactively develop fundraising strategies that support programmatic and campaign-based activities
    • Be a key thought partner to teams/projects around operational strategy and systems improvement
    • Create and oversee department and campaign budgets
    • Supervise and mentor Development Department, including co-creating and monitoring staff performance goals, conduct annual performance reviews, and recommend salary adjustments
    • Support Board Member fundraising efforts
    • Serve as an organizational representative at conferences, community events, and in media engagement to elevate Swipe Out Hunger impact and foster new philanthropic partnerships.

    Requirements

    • 5 years’ experience in professional fundraising, with a history of closing five- and six-figure gifts.
    • Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
    • CRM Proficiency: Knowledge of nonprofit CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce, or Raiser's Edge) for donor segmentation, pipeline management, and reporting.
    • Experienced project manager with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, time management, and a collaborative work style.
    • Strong interpersonal and writing skills, with the ability to use discretion and exercise sound judgment.
    • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers.
    • Goal-driven “self-starter” motivated to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
    • Highly organized with a proven ability to exhibit “follow-through” on tasks and goals.
    • Positive and community-minded professional who demonstrates presence, self-confidence, common sense, and excellent listening ability.
    • Complete other duties as assigned.

    Compensation & Benefits Package

    This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary of $85,000. Swipe Out Hunger provides a supportive benefits package including unlimited PTO and 100% coverage for employees. This includes medical, dental, and vision benefits, 401K retirement matching after 6 months tenure, flex time, a $500/year professional development stipend, and during your first year in your role, $400 towards a ‘Work Comfortably from Home’ fund.
