Position Summary
The HR Generalist is responsible for recruitment, benefits, and compliance. In addition to communicating directly with employees and candidates, the HR Generalist implements and improves administrative functions, record keeping, and HRIS systems for the department. This person will play a key role in ensuring smooth, timely, and confidential HR operations in a mission-driven workplace. This position reports to the HR Director.
Responsibilities
Lead HR Functions
- Create and implement goals, plans, and timelines for key HR functions, including full-time and seasonal recruitment/hiring, benefits enrollment, and reporting/compliance.
- Propose changes to enhance goals and systems, or identify opportunities for revenue/spending improvements; take the lead on agreed-upon initiatives.
Recruiting and Hiring
- With the HR Director, set strategy and annual goals for recruitment and hiring of year-round and seasonal staff.
- Execute actions related to recruitment/hiring, including but not limited to posting job ads, submitting background checks, sending offer letters, and initiating online onboarding.
Benefits
- Maintain a positive working relationship with our benefits providers in order to maximize services and support for our employees. Ensure benefits systems are working well; provide feedback to providers and troubleshooting advice to employees.
- Benefits enrollment: Lead Open Enrollment process, ensuring full communication with and participation of employees; during the rest of the year enroll eligible new employees in benefits, administer payroll deductions, and process terminations of.
Compliance
- Maintain a compliance calendar for all HR functions and reporting requirements; complete associated tasks, such as worker's comp audit, sending W2s, and ACA reporting; communicate with departments about their upcoming reporting deadlines and responsibilities. Respond to other compliance needs as necessary, including but not limited to NMUI claims, workers comp claims, and FMLA notification and monitoring.
- Maintain and improve employee record-keeping systems; ensure compliance to safeguard different types of employee information.
- With HR Director, assist in training or supporting supervisors and employees in abiding by Ghost Ranch policies and procedures.
HR Administration
- Become proficient in UKG Ready (HRIS) for efficient administration of HR functions. Suggest improvements to maximize ease and functionality.
- Respond to questions from employees or managers about employee records, PTO, timesheets, tax form changes, etc.; respond to external audiences about employment history, loan verifications, compliance actions, etc.
- Partner with the HR Director to address any complaints or investigations.
- Partner with the finance team to prepare payroll. Review timesheets and communicate with managers for approvals and troubleshooting; enter payroll deductions for benefits; assist as needed with payroll processing when the finance team is unavailable.
Qualifications
- Proven human resources knowledge and skills. Three or more years of experience in HR required.
- Associate’s or bachelor's degree in HR is strongly preferred.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and project management skills. Able to prioritize projects and implement them accurately within deadlines.
- Keen observation skills and attention to detail. Ability to catch mistakes and propose corrections.
- Strong computer skills, including ease with HRIS database entry, reporting, and troubleshooting. (Experience with UKG Ready is a plus.)
- Dependability, integrity, and flexibility are required.
- Able to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
- Excellent communicator; able to relate clearly and professionally with a diverse team in written and verbal format. (Fluency in Spanish is a plus.)
