    Organization Overview

    Acta Non Verba: Youth Urban Farm Project (ANV) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to elevate life for youth and their families in Oakland and beyond by challenging oppressive dynamics and environments through urban farming and access to the natural environment. Founded and led primarily by women and People of Color, ANV creates safe, creative outdoor spaces where youth engage in food production, environmental education, and leadership development.

    Position Summary

    The CSA Coordinator is a key member of the Food & Farms team, responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations of ANV’s three-season BeetBox Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. This role ensures smooth weekly produce ordering, packing, delivery, customer communication, and community engagement while supporting farmer partners, volunteers, and youth participants.

    The CSA Coordinator works closely with the Director of Food & Farms, Packing Coordinator, Farms Coordinator, Marketing Coordinator, and external vendors to deliver a high-quality CSA experience rooted in food justice, equity, and community care.

    This position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, people-oriented, and passionate about local food systems, nonprofit operations, and community engagement.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    Percentage allocations reflect an estimated average over the course of the year; weekly responsibilities may shift seasonally.

    1. CSA Logistics, Fulfillment & Operations (≈35%)
    • Maintain on-site presence Monday–Friday (with occasional Saturdays) at the West Oakland Farm Park, WOW Farm and Tassafaronga.
    • Coordinate weekly produce orders by communicating with sister farmers via phone, text, and email.
    • Schedule and coordinate produce pickups and deliveries, including farmer markets and third-party delivery service (Piikup).
    • Oversee weekly CSA packing in collaboration with the Packing Coordinator, volunteers, and farm staff.
    • Create and maintain weekly CSA documentation, including packing lists, delivery slips, and pickup location tags.
    • Manage CSA systems and data using Farmelle, Stripe, and internal tracking tools.
    • Maintain CSA-related supply inventory (bags, paper goods, egg crates, cleaning supplies, etc.).
    1. Customer, Community & Outreach Engagement (≈20%)
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for CSA members, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and friendly manner.
    • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator to produce and distribute the weekly “Weekly Flava” CSA newsletter.
    • Design and upload outreach content for newsletters, social media, and the website (with support).
    • Conduct CSA customer surveys and implement improvements based on feedback.
    • Support outreach efforts to grow CSA membership, with a focus on increasing participation among EBT users and local community members.
    • Foster community partnerships and opportunities for engagement with the CSA and farm sites.
    1. Vendor Relations, Finance & Reporting (≈15%)
    • Track, upload, and support timely payment of farmer and vendor invoices in coordination with the Director of Food & Farms.
    • Track CSA sales revenue, community produce donations, and EBT transactions.
    • Process EBT payments and assist with monthly grant reporting related to CSA distribution.
    • Produce monthly CSA sales and distribution reports.
    • Support grant writing and reporting efforts related to CSA and food access when needed.
    1. Volunteer, Youth & On-Site Leadership (≈10%)
    • Schedule, onboard, and coordinate volunteers for CSA packing and distribution days.
    • Lead volunteers and youth participants during CSA operations, ensuring a welcoming, organized, and safe environment.
    • Act as on-site lead during CSA packing and distribution, helping prioritize tasks and support team flow.
    • Welcome farm visitors and lead volunteer and school group activities.
    • Support youth development programs, camps, and educational farm activities as requested, in collaboration with Food & Farms staff.
    1. Organizational Collaboration, Safety & Administration (≈20%)
    • Maintain regular communication with the Director of Food & Farms, Packing Coordinator, Farms Coordinator, Farms Assistant, and other relevant staff.
    • Coordinate ANV harvests with the Farms Coordinator as needed.
    • Actively engage with general farm tasks across ANV locations when required.
    • Attend daily huddles, supervisor check-ins, biweekly team meetings, weekly all-staff meetings, and relevant working groups.
    • Submit timecards, receipts, and time-off requests accurately and on time.
    • Comply with all workplace safety and food safety policies; complete required trainings.
    • Identify and report risks, injuries, or safety concerns and ensure appropriate use of PPE.

    Measures of Success

    • Accurate and timely CSA fulfillment each week.
    • Positive CSA member experience and retention.
    • Strong, respectful relationships with farmer partners.
    • Collaborates effectively with the Food & Farms team to support efficient harvest planning and increased farm productivity.
    • On-time invoice processing and accurate reporting.
    • Well-organized, safe, and welcoming CSA packing and distribution days.
    • Increased community access to CSA, including EBT participation.

    Required

    • At least 1 year of farm production experience or relevant training, preferably in organic or sustainable agriculture.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, while also having the willingness to tackle challenges as they arise.
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    • Comfortable using digital tools such as Google Workspace, Farmelle, Stripe, Canva, Airtable, email platforms, and social media.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while wearing multiple hats, and needing to solve problems quickly.
    • Dependable, punctual, and able to manage multiple responsibilities.
    • Alignment with ANV’s mission, values, and commitment to food justice and equity.

    Preferred

    • Experience working with CSA programs or community-based food systems.
    • Familiarity with nonprofit operations and grant-funded programs.
    • Bilingual or multilingual (English/Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), Arabic, or Pashto highly desired).
    • Strong written, verbal, and visual storytelling skills.
    • Familiarity with the Oakland community and local food systems.

    Physical Requirements & Other Expectations

    This position includes physical labor typical of farm and packing work, including:

    • Standing for extended periods
    • Reaching, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs
    • Ability to work multiple hours on a computer
    • Working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
    • Navigating uneven terrain and farm surfaces

    Must have a valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation for travel to farm sites, pickups, and outreach events.
