    We are seeking an experienced, mission-driven Communications Manager to lead communications efforts for Lawyers for Good Government's (L4GG's) Climate Change and Environmental Justice (CCEJ) Program, including the Clean Energy Clinic, the Fund Protection Clinic, and other initiatives. The person who succeeds in this role will have substantive knowledge of climate change and environmental justice issues, including the Inflation Reduction Act, strong communications and writing skills, and experience developing strategic communications for complex environmental programs. This position reports to the VP, Development and Engagement and will be part of a 4-person Communications team, including another Communications Manager and a Digital Communications Associate.

    This position will work closely with the 25-person CCEJ Program Team, serving as a necessary bridge between the two teams to advance the communications needs of CCEJ. The CCEJ Program is a nationally-recognized legal assistance provider to cities, states, frontline organizations, Tribal entities and more pushing climate and equity policies and is regularly asked to help present and train to entities across the country both virtually and in-person. We’re looking for a professional who can help the CCEJ team manage these events along with the comms strategy to amplify the impact of these efforts.

    The Communications Manager will lead CCEJ communications by:

    • Strategic Communications
      • Managing communications planning and strategy for all CCEJ initiatives
      • Writing high-quality external communications copy for CCEJ programs
      • Developing op-eds related to climate change and environmental justice issues
      • Supporting programmatic communications needs including slides, reports, one-pagers, and other materials
      • Producing content for Federal Funding mailing list
      • Representing L4GG at communications coalition calls related to CCEJ work
    • Media Relations
      • Managing media relations for CCEJ programs
      • Overseeing contractors supporting media outreach
      • Ensure key staff are building relationships with reporters covering climate and environmental issues
      • Identifying opportunities for CCEJ story placement
      • Tracking and amplifying CCEJ media stories
    • Event and Project Management
      • Support the planning of CCEJ trainings, events, and webinars, working with L4GG’s Events Manager and relevant CCEJ team members
      • Coordinating marketing for CCEJ events, including follow-up communications
      • Managing the Federal Funding mailing list, including marketing strategies and content production
      • Working with Washington CETCAP (Clean Energy Tax Credit Assistance Program) communications and outreach contractors to achieve the goals of that program
      • Meeting regularly with CETCAP community engagement partners
    • Team Administration
      • Collaborating with L4GG's communications team on integrated strategies
      • Supporting L4GG-wide communications initiatives when needed
      • Building collaborative relationships with CCEJ program staff

    REQUIREMENTS:

    The ideal candidate will have substantive knowledge of climate change and environmental justice issues, excellent writing and strategic communications skills, and the ability to translate complex environmental topics into impactful narratives for diverse audiences. We need someone who can work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality communications products on deadline. Must have access to a quiet workspace (home office or other space) with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and/or video conferences during working hours.

    Required qualifications include:

    • Education required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
    • 4-5 years of experience in communications, preferably with focus on environmental or climate issues
    • Demonstrated knowledge of climate change and environmental justice concepts and policies
    • Experience developing communications strategies for complex programs or campaigns
    • Exceptionally strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience translating technical, legal, or scientific information into digestible, engaging stories for general audiences
    • Experience managing media relations
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Experience representing organizations to external stakeholders and coalition partners
    • Proven ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously
    • Experience using Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive
    • Experience using Mac computers
    • Exceptional technology comfort and competence
    • Consistent attention to detail
    • Strong ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage competing demands
    • Commitment to our organization's mission and environmental justice principles

    Desired qualifications include:

    • Experience working with legal organizations or in policy advocacy
    • Experience with any or all of the following digital tools: Asana, Airtable, MailChimp, Slack, Zoom
    • Experience managing contractors
    • Experience working with community-based organizations
    • Understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulatory processes
    • Experience with email marketing platforms and social media management
    • Background working on specific climate resilience, decarbonization, or environmental justice initiatives
