    The Finance & Grants Manager plays a key role in supporting the organization’s financial operations and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private grant requirements. This position manages day-to-day grant financial activities, supports accurate accounting processes, prepares monthly financial reports, assists with audits, and works closely with program and finance staff to ensure strong fiscal stewardship. This is a mid-level management role responsible for execution, coordination, and oversight. The role ensures financial and grant activities are completed accurately and on time and provides guidance to accounting and program staff as needed

    Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis

    • Maintain organizational budget model.
    • Participate in the annual budgeting process.
    • Update and manage the monthly financial forecast.
    • Prepare and present financial performance metrics to leadership, including but not limited to budget-to-actuals, dashboards, KPIs, and variance analyses.
    • Leverage advanced Excel skills to continuously enhance and update budget and forecast models, ensuring timely, accurate, and efficient financial reporting.

    Financial Management & Reporting

    • Prepare monthly financial statements, grant reports, and variance analyses.
    • Maintain general ledger accuracy by reviewing transactions for coding, allowability, and completeness.
    • Support month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.
    • Maintain accounting and grant procedures manuals where assigned.
    • Recommend process improvements to financial workflows, documentation practices, and internal controls.
    • Support the payroll process by reviewing and validating payroll data in coordination with the Vice President of Finance.

    Grants Management & Compliance

    • Ensure grant expenditures comply with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), state regulations, and contract requirements.
    • Understand, review, and analyze grant backup documentation, cost allocations, and supporting schedules for accuracy and compliance.
    • Serve as finance liaison and provide training support to program managers on budget usage, allowable costs, and reporting requirements
    • Track funder requirements, program income, restricted funding, etc.

    Audit & Monitoring Support

    • Prepare financial schedules, documentation, and support for annual audits, federal/state monitoring, and site visits.
    • Assist with financial components of subrecipient monitoring processes, including contributions to risk assessments and confirming compliance with federal and state award terms.

    Team Collaboration & Leadership

    • Provide day-to-day guidance to accounting staff, as applicable.
    • Foster a collaborative, customer-service-focused culture while upholding compliance and accuracy.
    • Mentors and develop staff; oversee training and development plans.
    • Complete performance evaluations using objective, measurable criteria.

    Required Skills/Abilities

    Required

    • Advanced Excel skills are mandatory and will be assessed during the interview process (pivot tables, complex formulas, lookups, etc.).
    • Knowledge of GAAP and FASB standards.
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
    • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance program staff.

    Preferred

    • Nonprofit finance experience, including grant accounting.
    • Knowledge of fund accounting and federal grant requirements.
    • Experience with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance).
    • Experience supporting subrecipient monitoring or subrecipient management.
    • Experience with Momentive Abila MIP Fund Accounting or other nonprofit accounting systems.
    • Experience with data visualizations software

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
    • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
    • Minimum 4 years of experience in senior financial planning and analysis or related finance function.
    • At least 6 years of overall professional accounting experience.
