About the Role
The BPL IT Manager stewards the security, reliability, and effectiveness of Big Picture Learning’s technology ecosystem. By thoughtfully designing, implementing, and supporting the systems that power our work, this role ensures staff have the tools they need to operate efficiently and securely. In doing so, the IT Manager strengthens the organizational foundation that allows BPL to advance its mission with confidence and resilience. Role Overview
- Location: Remote, U.S.-based
- Reports To: Director of Operations & Development
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Travel: Occasional travel for annual conferences and team gatherings
What You’ll Do
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Technology Operations & Staff Support
Ensure BPL’s technology systems are reliable, secure, and responsive to staff needs.
- Manage day-to-day IT operations, including internal help desk support and timely issue resolution.
- Maintain system performance, user access, permissions, and security protocols across platforms.
- Lead technology onboarding and offboarding processes, including provisioning and revoking system access, maintaining accurate access records, and ensuring timely credential termination.
- Develop clear documentation and deliver onboarding, training, and ongoing support that meets staff at varying levels of technical proficiency and promotes consistent adoption of best practices.
- Proactively identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities to strengthen system reliability, data protection, and overall user experience.
- Partner with Operations, HR, and Finance to support compliance with audit and internal control requirements by maintaining documentation, conducting access reviews, and implementing established technology policies and procedures.
Technology Research & Implementation
Advance a cohesive, mission-aligned technology ecosystem that supports organizational growth and effectiveness.
- Research, assess, and recommend technology platforms and system improvements aligned with organizational needs, prioritizing equitable tools that strengthen remote collaboration, clarify workload visibility, and improve overall team capacity and effectiveness.
- Lead the thoughtful and responsible adoption of AI tools and automation, ensuring alignment with BPL’s mission, data security standards, and commitment to equitable access and use.
- Lead implementation initiatives, including vendor management, system configuration, testing, rollout, and change management.
- Ensure interoperability across systems and maintain a streamlined, integrated technology environment.
- Establish processes for ongoing evaluation, optimization, and lifecycle management of technology tools.
- Stay current on emerging trends, tools, and best practices in IT management, cybersecurity, and nonprofit technology, proactively recommending improvements that strengthen organizational resilience.
Salesforce Support
Serve as primary internal steward of BPL’s Salesforce instance.
- Manage user setup, permissions, basic configuration, and troubleshooting within Salesforce.
- Support reporting needs and help to maintain data integrity, quality, and security standards.
- Coordinate with external consultants or partners for advanced development or system enhancements as needed.
BPL Citizenship
- Support efforts to foster fairness, belonging, and equal opportunity while actively advocating for justice at the personal, organizational, and systemic levels.
- Support, participate in, and attend annual BPL conferences and other org-wide events as needed

Qualifications & Experience
- 4-5 years’ experience managing organizational IT operations, including help desk support, user access management, system administration, and technology troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, data protection standards, and access control protocols, with a commitment to safeguarding organizational systems and information.
- Experience researching, evaluating, and implementing technology platforms, including vendor management and system rollout in a nonprofit or mission-driven environment preferred.
- Proficiency administering Salesforce (or comparable CRM), including user management, basic configuration, reporting support, and data integrity maintenance.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible guidance and provide training and support to users with varying levels of technical proficiency.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives and drive projects from assessment through implementation.
- While BPL does not require formal higher education (i.e. Bachelor’s, Master’s, etc.), we recognize and value relevant educational experience and will consider it as part of your total years of professional experience.

Compensation
The starting annual salary range for this position is $77,920 - $84,795.
Big Picture Learning is committed to fair and transparent compensation practices. Salary offers are determined based on relevant experience, skill transferability, and assessed readiness for the role. This structured approach allows us to account for the unique strengths and backgrounds each candidate brings while maintaining consistency across the organization.
To promote equity and reduce bias in compensation decisions, offers are determined using this criteria-based framework and are not subject to negotiation. We are committed to placing candidates as accurately as possible at the time of hire.
To ensure equitable and accurate placement, all new hires participate in a six-month salary review. This review considers initial contributions, growth, and development in the role, and may result in an adjustment to better align compensation with demonstrated performance and responsibilities.
