    Descripción

    Shrimp Welfare Project is an independent nonprofit dedicated to improving animal welfare in the global shrimp farming sector. We work directly with shrimp producers worldwide, supporting them in improving their farming, harvesting, and slaughter practices.

    Our mission is to improve the welfare of billions of shrimps, in the most cost-effective way possible. To achieve this, we have the following interventions:

    • Corporate Engagement: We collaborate with global producers, seafood suppliers, and retailers to improve farming practices, especially in harvest and slaughter.
    • Farmer Engagement - India: Sustainable Shrimp Farmers In India (SSFI) promotes the best welfare-focused practices in shrimp farming. This is done through offering improved sustainability standards, technical assistance, enhanced reputation, access to training and resources, networking opportunities, and marketing support.
    • Policy & Research: Shrimp Welfare Project is actively engaged in numerous research projects, allowing us to investigate and tackle our key uncertainties. As a result, we produce reports that disseminate our findings to a wider audience.
    • Outreach: Shrimp Welfare Project team members and our advisors have authored a number of articles, given talks and appeared on podcasts which are intended to give an overview of some of the critical aspects of shrimp welfare.

    Shrimp Welfare Project is an ACE Recommended Charity in the Effective Altruism space. Effective Altruism (EA) and the idea that sentient beings deserve consideration are the core values that our team shares. EA is a philosophical and social movement that advocates the use of evidence and reasoning to determine the most effective ways to benefit others. Learn more at effectivealtruism.org.

    How you will make a difference

    Shrimp Welfare Project is working with the global shrimp farming industry to advance humane slaughter practices. Through our Humane Slaughter Initiative, we support producers around the world in transitioning from traditional chill killing to modern electrical stunning systems, improving welfare for billions of animals. We currently partner with 30 producers across Latin America, Asia and Africa, helping them adopt equipment and practices that make harvesting both more humane and more efficient.

    As the initiative grows, we are looking for a Technical Field Coordinator for Latin America who will play a central role in successfully bringing electrical stunners into day-to-day farm operations. This is a practical, field-based position focused on coordinating manufacturing, shipping and installations; supporting logistics; and acting as a bridge between shrimp producers, equipment manufacturers, and the Shrimp Welfare Project team. Responsibilities include regular communication with stakeholders (via email, phone, and WhatsApp), hands-on support during on-farm installation visits, and follow-up with producers to ensure successful, sustained use of the equipment. The position is also responsible for engaging producers and seafood suppliers to secure their participation in the Humane Slaughter Initiative programme.

    The Technical Field Coordinator for Latin America will also support monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) efforts by collecting usage data and producer feedback. The role works closely with our Director of Programme Implementation, as well as our research and MEL teams, to ensure smooth installations and effective support for producers. The nature of the work might evolve over time as we continue to make improvements to the programme.

    Role and Responsibilities:

    1. Programme implementation:
      • Organize installations and trainings for farm staff on shrimp stunners in coordination with shrimp producers and stunner manufacturers;
      • Supervise and support stunner installations and technical operation trainings for farm staff on farm sites;
      • Train farm staff on humane slaughter of shrimps;
      • Coordinating manufacturing, shipping and installations;
      • Coordinate with relevant parties to improve stunning equipment and operational processes.
    2. Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning:
      • Collect data on the implementation of humane slaughter in shrimp farms;
      • Coordinate with relevant parties to collect the data.
    3. Producer Engagement:
      • Engaging with producers and seafood companies to secure their commitments to humane slaughter.
    4. Research:
      • Assist with research studies conducted on farm sites on humane slaughter in terms of logistic preparation and data collection.

    What we need:

    • Fluent in English and Spanish (speaking and writing);
    • Based in Ecuador or Honduras;
    • Flexibility and willingness to travel extensively in Latin America (including but not limited to Ecuador, Honduras and Venezuela);
    • Willing to work at shrimp farm conditions for short periods of time (shorter than 5 days at time). Work related travel costs will be reimbursed; and Travel Guidelines are in place for pre/post travels to maintain a healthy work/life balance;
    • Proactiveness;
    • Have a mind for technicality or willingness to learn technical knowledge;
    • Strong interpersonal skills;
    • Strong organizational and coordination skills;
    • Strong problem-solving skills;
    • High level of attention to detail;
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
    • Knowledge/experience in aquaculture is a plus.

    Compensación

    • Recognized as one of the most effective animal orgs (ACE Recommended Charity & FarmKind Recommended Charity).
    • Our (Shr)impact is one of the most cost-effective animal causes.
    • We are well-funded and entering a pivotal phase of growth, making this an exciting opportunity to support one of our core programmes and amplify our impact.

    • Be part of a highly skilled, driven and diverse team of passionate individuals from all over the world.
