    POSITION SUMMARY

    Amgen Biotech Experience Los Angeles (ABE-LA), funded by the Amgen Foundation, is an innovative science education program that provides teacher professional development, teaching materials, and research-grade equipment and supplies to secondary schools free of charge and features a hand-on molecular biology curriculum that introduces students to the excitement of scientific discovery through cutting edge in-person and online lab experiences.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Outreach & Event Coordinator to drive awareness of our program and engage key stakeholders. This role involves planning and executing outreach efforts such as school visits, community events, and workshops, while developing recruitment strategies to engage underserved communities. The coordinator will build and maintain relationships with educators, school districts, and community partners, and oversee the recruitment, onboarding, and training of ABELA student volunteers and interns. Additionally, this position will manage outreach marketing campaigns, track performance metrics, and contribute to public relations initiatives, all while serving as an ambassador for ABE-LA’s community outreach efforts.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

    • In coordination with the ABE site director and associate director: Plan, manage, and present at outreach and recruitment efforts, including school visits, community events, conferences, and program introductory workshops throughout the academic year.
    • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to engage high school teachers and students, with a focus on underserved communities.
    • Build and maintain relationships with teachers, school districts, Teachers on special assignment, STEM coordinators and other community partners and stakeholders.
    • Coordinate ABELA student volunteer internship program
    • Serve as the ABE-LA Ambassador on Community Outreach and Engagement at Ambassador Community of Practice meetings.
    • Track and report outreach metrics to evaluate impact and inform strategy.
    • Coordinate outreach and recruitment based marketing/PR campaigns for ABE-LA social media with support from the LAPF Communications team and other ABE-LA team members as needed.
    • Assist with other public relations activities and collaborate on messaging, materials, and branding.

    CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

    Education and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Public Relations or Marketing, or a related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of a specific degree area.
    • 3+ years of experience in outreach, education, community engagement, or related roles preferred.
    • Strong organizational and communication skills.
    • Experience coordinating volunteers and working with educators, school districts, and STEM coordinators preferred.
    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
    • Strong public speaking and community relationship-building skills
    • Passion for equity in education
