ACT 4 SA seeks Full-Time Development Director

    ACT 4 SA | San Antonio, Texas | Hybrid | Full-Time

    About ACT 4 SA

ACT 4 SA is San Antonio's leading grassroots criminal justice organization, solely dedicated to fighting over-criminalization and over-policing in Bexar County. We exist because the people of San Antonio have demanded a public safety system that works for everyone, not just those with power, privilege, or proximity to police. We empower the San Antonio community through year-round base building, policy, education, grassroots actions, and more to achieve accountable, compassionate, and transparent public safety that preserves and centers the health and well-being of everyone without a reliance on police and prisons. Our staff, board, and volunteers all represent the diverse communities we work with, many of us directly impacted by the carceral system directly or through loved ones.

    The Role

ACT 4 SA is seeking a Full-Time Development Director to lead ACT 4 SA's revenue generation strategy and secure the long-term sustainability of both ACT 4 SA and ACT 4 SA Action Fund, our 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) arms. This is a senior leadership position for someone who understands that fundraising is organizing and that resources fuel movement. The Development Director role is a hybrid position, with 70% of the role work from home and 30% of the role in person at the office or traveling to in-person meetings and/or events.

The Development Director will design and execute our comprehensive development strategy, overseeing individual giving, major gifts, events, and grant management. You will work closely with the Executive Director and Board to ensure financial viability while staying grounded in our mission and values.

This role requires vision, strategy, and strong relationship-building skills, along with a passion for advancing ACT 4 SA’s work across Bexar County. You will drive organizational fundraising goals, cultivate major institutional and individual relationships, manage our donor pipeline, and steward the growth of pooled philanthropic resources for ACT 4 SA and ACT4SA Action Fund.

For the first 1-2 years of this position, 60% of your time will focus on building an individual donor pipeline from small to major donors, with the Executive Director assisting in grant writing and securing institutional and major donors to allow focus on this particular piece of our fundraising strategy.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fundraising Strategy and Leadership

    • Implement and execute annual fundraising plans to meet organizational goals
    • Lead cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of foundation, donor-advised fund, and family foundation partners
    • Manage a portfolio of five- and six-figure institutional funders, building strong long-term relationships
    • Identify opportunities for multi-year funding partnerships that support our work
    • Oversee grant pipelines, proposals, and reports, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with program goals

    Donor Pipeline and Relationship Building

    • Build and maintain an individual donor pipeline from small to major donors
    • Provide leadership to development team and supervise staff and fundraising contractors
    • Partner with the Board of Directors to deepen their involvement in fundraising and donor engagement
    • Generate donor communications, newsletters, and annual reports alongside the Communications team
    • Network and maintain regular correspondence with donors

    Data and Systems Management

    • Oversee donor data systems and ensure accurate tracking of donor engagement and gift reporting
    • Maintain proficiency with donor databases and productivity tools (Google Suite)
    • Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals

    Organizational Leadership

    • Contribute to organizational strategy, culture, and cross-team collaboration as a member of senior leadership team
    • Assist in creation of print, digital, and social media content related to fundraising
    • Plan and execute special fundraising events, often in collaboration with staff and/or the Board of Directors

    Required Qualifications

    Experience

    • Minimum 4 years of nonprofit development experience with a track record of securing five- and six-figure gifts
    • At least 2 years of fundraising experience specific to Texas
    • Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required with enough fundraising experience
    • Previous management experience preferred
    • Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and securing major gifts
    • This position requires a willingness to sometimes work irregular hours or work on occasional weekends, plus the ability to travel. Full time access to a vehicle is required.

    Skills and Knowledge

    • Demonstrated commitment to ACT 4 SA's mission, values, and principles
    • Deep knowledge of fundraising strategy, including institutional and individual giving, major donor cultivation, and pooled funds
    • Strong prospect identification and qualification skills
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading ability
    • Strong interpersonal, verbal communication, and presentation skills with the ability to inspire and influence funders
    • Superb organizational and leadership skills, including strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
    • Sound judgment and ability to anticipate challenges
    • Discretion in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive materials and donor relationships
    • Proficiency with donor databases and productivity tools (Google Suite preferred)

    Compensation and Benefits

This is a hybrid (70% work from home 30% in person) full-time salaried position with:

    • Salary: $70,000-$75,000 dependent on experience
    • Health, vision, dental, and life insurance benefits
    • Unlimited PTO Plan
    • Internet Stipend

    Why ACT 4 SA

We are not a policy think tank or a distant advocacy group. We are the watchdog, the educator, the organizer, and the bridge between pain and power. Our work has created CopTheData.com, the only dashboard in Texas tracking officer suspensions. We have hosted misdemeanor warrant clinics, the first of their kind in Texas, and reduced timelines for body camera footage release, advocated for non-police mental health crisis response teams, established murals commemorating local victims of police violence, and held law enforcement accountable across Bexar County. You will join a team where every staff member has been impacted by the carceral system, and work alongside people who understand that police are not the answer to mental health, poverty, or housing insecurity.
